SENIOR PROJECT COST ESTIMATOR
We are seeking an experienced Cost Estimator to join our team in New York, NY. This role focuses on preparing and supervising construction cost estimates for type I, II, III, and V buildings, ensuring accuracy and compliance with state and federal guidelines.
Minimum Requirements
10+ years full-time paid professional experience in preparing complete cost estimates for type I, II, III, and V buildings as defined by state building codes, including at least two years in a supervisory capacity.
In-depth knowledge of current local construction labor and material costs.
Extensive experience in developing and estimating the scope of work for change orders.
Ability to compare independent cost estimates with contractor proposals to quickly identify differences.
Ability to develop scope of work based on RFI/RFC answers and estimate detailed costs independently.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Graduated from a recognized college or university with a bachelor's degree in architecture, engineering, or construction management.
Duties
Planned, supervised, and participated in the preparation of construction cost estimates of buildings or other structures from drawings, outlines, and specifications.
Prepared and reviewed cost estimates and forms submitted for state and/or federal grants and loans, representing the District on funding matters.
Reviewed and verified cost estimates submitted by commissioned architects and engineers for accuracy and completeness, comparing them with District estimates.
Collaborated with architects and engineers to resolve differences and negotiated preliminary cost estimates.
Conducted studies and prepared reports when contractors' bids varied widely from the agreed construction cost estimate.
Evaluated segregated contract costs for acceptance or rejection as a basis for progress payments.
Analyzed change orders on construction work under contract and approved or rejected extras or credits submitted.
Prepared or reviewed cost estimates for projects, established procedures for approval of plans and specifications, and submitted approved projects for public bidding.
Developed data maintenance methods for records, charts, and graphs reflecting estimated vs. actual costs.
Facilitated seminars and workshops with staff and minority contractors on bidding procedures, contracts, and cost estimating.
Estimated damages to District property caused by fire, natural disaster, or vandalism.
Established budgets for school building projects.
Prepared preliminary and final independent cost estimates for comparison with designers or contractors to secure negotiating positions.
Prepared change order estimates for Owner Authorized Representatives.
Provided support in price negotiations and reviewed contractor claims for merit and accountability.
Performed related duties as assigned.
