Join the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Professional Research Experience Program (PREP) as an Assistant Research Scientist. This position is part of the NIST PREP program, which requires academic institutions to be recipients of a PREP award. Employees in this role will perform technical work that underpins the scientific research of the collaboration, focusing on forensic chemometrics and uncertainty quantification in mass‑spectrometry identification and classification. Responsibilities

Implement optimized calculations to study AI classification algorithms. Assess uncertainty in classification of experimental data. Computationally test mathematical models relating uncertainty quantification. Significant software development (most likely Python). Disseminate results through posters and seminars at meetings. Ensure all results, findings, data, and software are correctly archived and transmitted through appropriate channels. Qualifications

Either completed master’s degree or PhD in data science or related field. Minimum of one year of experience conducting data science research. Significant coursework in mathematics, statistics, and/or computer science. Knowledge or interest in chemistry and chemometrics methods. Familiarity with larger computational and AI/ML software packages. Ability to program in a modern computational language (e.g., Python). Application Instructions
