Position Summary The Sr. Mechanical Engineer reports to the VP of Engineering and leads mechanical engineering efforts for a portfolio of data center projects, including new construction, phased expansion, retrofits, upgrades, and acquisition conversions. The role develops design standards, processes, and procedures and works closely with key stakeholders and equipment suppliers.

Key Responsibilities

Support innovation & development with the VP of Engineering and other stakeholders, including evaluating new products and integrating them into PDC standards.

Collaborate with Operations teams to align design standards and best practices with their requirements; review and validate Method Of Procedure (MOP) documents.

Perform mechanical engineering tasks for master planning and concept design during investment planning, review, and approval.

Review requests for proposals (RFPs) for design services, perform bid leveling, and scope verification.

Review consultants’ engineering calculations and conduct independent engineering and cost analysis.

Provide detailed owner reviews of design and construction deliverables such as early design packages, drawings, specifications, equipment submittals, RFIs, and informal coordination.

Assess proposed deviations from standards or requirements.

Research new designs, materials, and construction methods for data center mechanical, plumbing, and fire protection equipment.

Conduct value‑engineering analyses and supply system recommendations based on ROI and simple payback in collaboration with construction cost estimators.

Review Integrated Automation System (IAS) points and sequence of operation; analyze BAS/BMS, EPMS, and DCIM integration.

Utilize engineering analysis programs for power usage effectiveness (PUE) calculations, load and electrical block sizing, simple payback/ROI, energy modeling, hydraulic calculations, and CFD analysis.

Attend design, construction, and customer meetings; participate in Factory Witness Testing (FWT) and on‑site commissioning for Level 4 and Level 5 Cx efforts.

Troubleshoot mechanical, plumbing, and fire protection challenges; provide emergency support as needed.

Perform additional duties assigned by the VP of Engineering.

Requirements

Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent from an accredited university; Fundamental of Engineering (FE) exam passed. Engineer in Training (EIT) preferred.

5+ years of experience in mission‑critical and/or data‑center mechanical design and construction.

Deep understanding of critical cooling infrastructure and how power sources provide cooling redundancy.

Proficiency in Bluebeam, Teams, Excel, and Word.

Experience with engineering software such as AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks, psychrometric analysis, load/energy calculations, and CFD.

Knowledge of applicable construction codes, particularly the International Building Code (IBC) and International Mechanical Code (IMC).

Familiarity with data‑center industry standards (e.g., ASHRAE TC9.9, BICSI Data Center Standards).
