OUTPATIENT INTAKE COORDINATOR Responsibilities The Psychiatric Intake Coordinator is accountable for assisting with intake assessments and referral activities for the Outpatient program at the facility. This position involves extensive patient contact and interfaces closely with the Intake RN, Utilization Review staff, PIW business office staff and clinical staff. This position is also responsible for basic mental health tech functions, inquiry calls, insurance verification, safety checks and scheduling of evaluations and admissions. Will conduct medication observations, and utilize verbal deescalation techniques.

The Psychiatric Institute of Washington provides comprehensive behavioral healthcare for children, adolescents, adults, and senior adults suffering from mental health and addictive illnesses. PIW is a 130 bed, short‑term, acute care hospital offering inpatient, partial and intensive outpatient hospitalization, as well as specialized treatment programs for chemical dependency. Qualifications Education: High school diploma. Bachelors Degree preferred.

Experience: Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in a health care setting dealing directly with patients. Prior behavioral health, corrections or emergency room experience highly preferred.

Demonstrated knowledge of computer skills and demonstrated knowledge of customer service and patient care principles.

Additional Requirements: CPR and CPI training as outlined in New Hire Policy must be completed before providing direct care services.

Additional Skills: Ability to communicate over the telephone and in face‑to‑face situations. Ability to handle multiple tasks effectively. Ability to maintain the confidentiality of all information and function in a challenging patient population.
