Putnam County Hospital - Greencastle, Indiana Contraceptive Counseling & Management: Offer a wide range of contraceptive methods, including oral contraceptives, IUDs, implants, condoms, and emergency contraception. Provide informed choice counseling, ensuring patients understand their options and can make decisions that align with their needs. Long-Acting Reversible Contraceptives (LARCs): Provide insertion, removal, and management of LARCs (IUDs, Nexplanon). Pregnancy Testing and Counseling: Conduct pregnancy tests, discuss options for prenatal care, abortion, or adoption, and offer non-directive counseling on all reproductive options.
Specific Duties
Family Planning Services :
Contraceptive Counseling & Management: Offer a wide range of contraceptive methods, including oral contraceptives, IUDs, implants, condoms, and emergency contraception. Provide informed choice counseling, ensuring patients understand their options and can make decisions that align with their needs. Long-Acting Reversible Contraceptives (LARCs): Provide insertion, removal, and management of LARCs (IUDs, Nexplanon). Pregnancy Testing and Counseling: Conduct pregnancy tests, discuss options for prenatal care, abortion, or adoption, and offer non-directive counseling on all reproductive options.
Preventive And Routine Health Care
Screenings and Health Assessments: Conduct annual well-woman exams, including cervical cancer screening (Pap smears), breast exams, STI testing, and counseling on sexual health. Preventive Services: Offer routine vaccinations (e.g., HPV vaccine), STI screening and treatment, and comprehensive health education on topics like safe sex practices, tobacco use cessation, and weight management.
Adolescent And Teen Health
Provide culturally competent and adolescent-friendly care, including sexual and reproductive health education, counseling on puberty, and support for young women and teens making decisions about their reproductive health. Address issues related to consent, sexual violence prevention, and establishing healthy relationships.
Comprehensive Sexual Health Counseling
Educate patients on STI prevention, the importance of safe sex practices, and provide counseling on sexual health concerns (e.g., vaginal infections, discomfort, or changes in sexual health). Conduct confidential HIV testing and counseling, linking patients to further resources as needed.
Patient Education & Empowerment
Educate patients on reproductive health, family planning options, and healthy lifestyle choices. Promote access to additional resources, such as community programs for low-income individuals, financial assistance for birth control, and support services for survivors of domestic violence or sexual assault. Provide resources on healthy relationships, reproductive rights, and personal autonomy.
Documentation And Compliance
Maintain accurate and confidential patient records using an Electronic Health Record (EHR) system, ensuring all services provided are properly documented. Ensure compliance with Title X guidelines, including patient confidentiality, informed consent, and reporting requirements. Participate in regular audits to ensure services align with Title X regulations and federal standards.
Collaboration & Referrals
Work closely with social workers, counselors, and community partners to address social determinants of health and ensure patients receive comprehensive care. Provide referrals for services outside of the clinic, such as mental health support, substance use treatment, or specialized reproductive care (e.g., infertility treatment).
Advocacy And Outreach
Participate in outreach and community education efforts, including providing resources and education in schools, community centers, or other settings where vulnerable populations may be reached. Advocate for reproductive health rights and ensure that all patients, regardless of their income or background, have access to necessary care.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be a graduate of an accredited program OR complete an accredited certificate program and pass a national certifying exam within twelve months of completing certificate program .
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
At least 3 years of experience as an FNP. Previous experience in family planning, reproductive, or adolescent health preferred.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Current Indiana NP licensure; certification in Family or Women’s Health Nursing Seniority level
