Overview
RN II - Zale 3 Medical ICU (Days & Nights) at UT Southwestern Medical Center. The NICU/RN II role involves collaboration with leadership to prioritize changes that improve patient safety and interdisciplinary clinical communication during hospitalization and transitions of care. You will help develop team/program goals and objectives for high-impact EMR transformation in key areas. Responsibilities
Performs and documents physical, psychosocial, and emotional assessments across age groups (children to older adults). Anticipates patient and family needs, develops an appropriate plan of care, and uses critical thinking to prioritize nursing care. Identifies and implements appropriate nursing interventions based on assessments; documents interventions timely and coordinates the interdisciplinary plan of care. Prioritizes nursing interventions, identifies changes in condition, reports and follows up as appropriate, and keeps patient and family informed. Evaluates interventions and updates the plan of care; documents modifications accurately and timely. Adheres to hospital and nursing policies, standards of practice, and the Professional Practice Model and Care Delivery System. Provides education to patients and families, documents education, and assesses understanding; supports discharge planning. Welcomes and orients patients and families; engages them in care planning and daily goal setting; conducts hourly rounds and communicates timelines for return. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications
Education and Experience Graduate of an approved/accredited nursing program. 1 year RN experience. Licenses and Certifications (Required or Upon Hire) Nursing Licensure (NLC) – Nursing Licensure Compact (BNE) upon hire. ACLS, BLS, NIHSS, CPI, TNCC, PALS, NRP, and related certifications as required for EM, NSICU, MICU, SICU, CVICU, and Rapid Response Team; 180 days to CPI and 1.5 years for TNCC, PALS, NRP and related competencies; L&D competencies as applicable. AWHONN fetal monitoring and other L&D competencies as applicable upon hire. Preferred Bachelor’s Degree (BSN). 3+ years of critical care experience. Essential Functions
Direct patient care and documentation with age-specific assessments. Collaborate with the care team to develop and adjust the plan of care; communicate effectively with patients, families, and staff. Maintain competency in unit expectations and nursing standards; integrate ANA standards and evidence-based practices. Provide patient and family education; document education and discharge plans; assess understanding. Orient patients and families, review the plan of care each shift, and explain procedures and medications in understandable terms. Participate in core nursing functions as described (direct patient care, documentation, and care coordination). Other duties as assigned. Working Conditions
