Security Officer Position This position, equivalent to a Security Officer, provides essential uniformed security services for facilities owned and operated by the City of Minneapolis. Duties include patrolling, responding to routine and emergency calls for service, and monitoring security systems while dispatching staff from the City Security Operations Center.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Perform monitoring duties in the Security Operations Center, including access control, security alarms, security cameras, building emergency systems, and radio dispatch systems.

Receive calls for assistance and incident reports, triage reports, dispatch security, or call 911 to dispatch police as necessary.

Initiate building emergency notification systems to alert employees and guests of emergencies.

Issue photo access cards for employees, MBC staff, city leaders, contractors, and activate/deactivate access levels on badgeholders.

Participate as a Building Emergency Control team member during actual emergencies and exercise drills.

Assist the Homeless Response Team in identifying homeless encampments and work with CPED to check city-owned lots and homes via a mobile patrol unit.

Perform building inspections at City facilities and worksites, and respond to off‑site situations via mobile patrol unit.

Assist Municipal Building Commission (MBC) security staff during large City Council meetings and protests, and monitor cameras at City Hall.

Regularly patrol and monitor underutilized areas, ensuring security contractors meet contractual duties and report discrepancies.

Provide customer service support for visiting employees and guests within City facilities.

Administer an incident management database program for safety, security, and emergency incident reports.

Perform routine building security patrols and respond to emergencies, disturbances, and routine service calls.

Facilitate after‑hours access to City facilities, standby for department meetings, and provide access for deliveries to facilities and dock areas.

Accept, log, store, and release lost and found items per City ordinance; serve as contact for all lost and found requests.

Working conditions require walking and standing throughout the shift while wearing bulky equipment such as duty belts and bulletproof vests weighing approximately 25 to 30 pounds.

Required Qualifications

High School diploma or equivalent.

Three years of related experience.

Equivalent combination of education and highly related experience may be considered.

Valid Driver's License.

Ability to speak, write, and understand English clearly.

Ability to accurately follow written and verbal instructions.

Ability to deal with the public and staff courteously under stressful conditions.

Completion of CPR, First Aid, and Bloodborne Pathogens training; ability to handle medical situations as a first responder.

Knowledge of modern office computer word processing systems.

Adequate knowledge of fire codes and trespass ordinances and laws.

Adequate knowledge of monitoring systems, recording processes, and playback capabilities.

Adequate typing and data entry skills.

Ability to drive a City vehicle safely while following traffic laws.

Licenses / Certifications Valid Driver's License.
