Role Description The Technician I, Instrumentation performs skilled tasks in the maintenance of electronic, electrical, pneumatic, and mechanical instrumentation. Under supervision, the candidate troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains instruments and assists with modifications and upgrades of instrument and computer control systems.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Performs first‑line diagnostics, troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of instrumentation equipment at the major assembly level to the component level in any assigned area of the plant.
Fully supports the use of a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) by demonstrating proficiency in using the system for work execution.
Complies with applicable safety rules and regulations.
Operates Authority vehicles as an essential function of the position, maintains vehicles/equipment in a clean and orderly manner, and reports any operating deficiencies to the appropriate Authority personnel.
Performs other related duties and projects as assigned at the discretion of the immediate supervisor.
Supervisory Responsibilities N/A
Key Working Relationships Interacts with employees in the department and throughout DC Water.
Required Experience
Minimum of two (2) years of experience related to instrumentation/measurement.
Basic understanding of Process Control Systems/Distributed Control Systems (PCS/DCS) and monitoring tools for troubleshooting.
Basic understanding of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and troubleshooting of input/output field signals.
Minimum Education Requirements
High School diploma or GED certificate.
Required Skills
Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID).
Proficiency in using electric/electronic test equipment to diagnose and correct equipment and process control system problems.
Required Licenses & Certifications
Must possess and maintain a current certification (within 9 months of hire) in the International Society of Automation designation of Certified Control Systems Technician (CCST I) or equivalent.
Must be able to pass fit test for use of respirator.
Must possess and maintain a valid Motor Vehicle Operating License and a DC Water Vehicle Endorsement.

Physical Requirements
May work indoors and/or outdoors, frequently exposed to various weather conditions, high or deep dangerous places, moving mechanical parts, risk of electric shock, vibration, fumes or airborne particles, chemicals, etc.
Requires moderate physical activities and occasionally lifting, pushing, pulling light or moderately heavy objects (up to 50 lbs), climbing, balancing, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, walking for long periods, and standing for long periods.
May be placed on call during specified hours and may work overtime, holidays, and weekends.
