Director of Technology Commercialization – Oxford
Location: Oxford, MS. Department: Office for Research & Economic Development. Designation: Regular full‑time. Role Summary
The Director will lead the strategic development and execution of technology commercialization initiatives under the Office for Research & Economic Development. Responsibilities include fostering innovation, protecting intellectual property, and facilitating the transition of research into commercial applications. Core Responsibilities / Essential Functions
Develop and implement a comprehensive technology transfer and commercialization strategy aligned with university goals. Oversee identification, evaluation, protection, and management of intellectual property (patents, copyrights, trademarks). Identify market opportunities, develop licensing agreements, and negotiate industry partnerships to commercialize technologies. Build and maintain relationships with researchers, faculty, industry partners, investors, and government agencies. Establish policies, procedures, and programs to streamline technology transfer processes and enhance commercialization outcomes. Secure funding through grants, partnerships, or venture capital to support technology development and startup initiatives. Lead, mentor, and develop a team of technology transfer professionals, fostering innovation and collaboration. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and institutional regulations related to IP and technology transfer. Promote awareness of technology transfer and commercialization opportunities through workshops, seminars, and outreach. Education & Experience
Minimum: Bachelor’s degree. Preferred: Advanced degree (Master’s or Ph.D.) in business, law, science, engineering, or related field. MBA or JD is a plus. Experience: 10 years in technology transfer, commercialization, or related field, with at least 6 years of supervisory experience. Preferred: 7‑10 years with 5+ years in leadership. Proven track record in IP management, licensing, and negotiating complex agreements. Strong market analysis, business development, and startup ecosystem knowledge. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to lead cross‑functional teams and manage multiple projects simultaneously. Knowledge of federal regulations (e.g., Bayh‑Dole Act) and industry standards. Strategic thinker, innovative, results‑oriented. Established network within industry, venture capital, or entrepreneurial communities; familiarity with emerging technologies. Application
