Overview A commercial real estate property management accountant handles the full accounting cycle for a portfolio of properties, including preparing financial statements, managing accounts payable and receivable, reconciling account balances, and ensuring compliance with GAAP and lease agreements. The role serves as a crucial link between property managers, owners, and tenants.

Responsibilities

Prepare financial statements and manage accounts payable/receivable, ensuring GAAP compliance and accurate lease accounting.

Calculate annual tenant CAM reconciliations for commercial retail and office properties in Excel, from start to finish.

Work with key department contacts to gather required information and backup needed to calculate, record charge/credit to tenant ledger, and assemble/coordinate tenant reconciliation package with cover letter, statement, and backup documentation.

Track and collect annual tenant reconciliation charges to close out all open receivables or credits in a timely manner.

Research and respond to tenant inquiries on reconciliation and rent charges.

Reconcile and research past‑due tenant charges to resolve, collect, and close out discrepancies.

Process and approve vendor invoices, ensuring accurate GL coding and timely payment of expenses.

Analyze financial data, identify discrepancies, and explain variances.

Assist with the rollout of new financial software.

Qualifications

Experience researching, reading, interpreting, and analyzing lease language in commercial office and retail tenant leases.

Yardi experience is required.
