The Tennessee Department of Health (TDH), Division of Family Health and Wellness (FHW), is seeking a Public Health Program Director 2 to work with the Tobacco Prevention and Control Program within the Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion Section. This position will be responsible for advancing smoking cessation initiatives, with a focus on populations experiencing the highest rates of tobacco use.

Key Responsibilities

Program Leadership: Direct and manage evidence-based cessation programs designed to reduce tobacco and nicotine use across the state.

Stakeholder Engagement: Convene and collaborate with public health partners, community organizations, healthcare providers, and other stakeholders to build capacity and strengthen statewide tobacco control efforts.

Data-Driven Decision-Making: Utilize epidemiologic data and program evaluation to inform strategies, monitor progress, and ensure accountability in reducing tobacco-related burden.

Strategic Implementation: Align program goals with TDH priorities and national best practices to maximize impact on population health.

The successful candidate will bring strong leadership, strategic planning, and communication skills to drive a comprehensive tobacco cessation agenda. This role offers the opportunity to shape statewide initiatives, improve health outcomes, and reduce the toll of tobacco and vaping on Tennessee communities.

This role is hybrid with some in-office expectations in Nashville, TN at supervisor discretion. First day attendance expected in-person in Nashville for orientation and laptop deployment. Travel to Nashville, TN is not reimbursable. Position is renewable annually, pending funding availability.

Weekly work schedule: Monday‑Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, with no overtime allowed.
