The Legal Team serves as an in‑house law firm and advisor, supporting privacy, product, IP, commercial, corporate governance, employment, acquisitions, litigation, and public policy matters. We’re looking for a Legal Counsel to join the Snap legal team. You will lead the global privacy and cybersecurity programs, collaborating with engineering, product, design, and security to ensure world‑class privacy‑by‑design and risk‑management practices.

What you’ll do:

Partner closely with Snap’s Engineering Security team to provide legal and strategic advice on vendor due diligence, third‑party privacy and security assessments, governance, risk compliance, and privacy and security incident response.

Collaborate with stakeholders to develop, improve, and enforce Snap’s data security policies, standards—ensuring they meet global legal requirements.

Ensure global compliance with privacy laws (GDPR, U.S. state and federal consumer protection, etc.).

Partner with Product Counsel on complex issues that arise in the development of new products and technologies, including privacy, data security, and encryption.

Work with Snap’s Privacy Engineering team to continually improve Snap’s privacy‑by‑design program.

Analyze potential legal risks and regulatory requirements for new products and technologies.

Conduct privacy due diligence reviews, privacy impact assessments, and integration plans for potential acquisitions and partnerships.

Help draft public‑facing descriptions of new products and technologies.

Track and analyze proposed, pending, and new domestic and global privacy and consumer legislation; recommend necessary modifications to practices; advise Snap’s Policy team on policy engagement priorities.

Conduct periodic privacy and security trainings across the company.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities:

Experience counseling security teams, including on‑call rotation for incident response and investigations.

Deep understanding of global cybersecurity laws, regulations, and frameworks (e.g., EU NIS 2, Cyber Resilience Act, Executive Order 14117, NIST).

Deep understanding of global privacy laws and frameworks, including GDPR, ePrivacy Directive, FTC Act Section 5, anti‑spam laws, cookies regulation, and U.S. state privacy statutes.

Knowledge of AI laws and frameworks, and a passion for responsible AI adoption.

In‑house or law firm experience with privacy, cybersecurity, and product, technology, and mobile‑app matters.

Excellent legal and business judgment, strategic thinking, and communication skills.

Strong collaborator, problem‑solver, detail‑oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.

Strong work ethic with a sense of humor.

Minimum qualifications:

J.D. from a nationally recognized law school.

Active membership in at least one state bar.

6+ years of experience practicing law.

Compensation

Base salary ranges by location:

Zone A (CA, WA, NYC): $209,000‑$313,000 annually.

Zone B: $199,000‑$297,000 annually.

Zone C: $178,000‑$266,000 annually.

Equity in the form of RSUs.
