About the Role We’re looking for a Java Engineer (Kotlin preferred) to join a high-performing backend engineering team building scalable, distributed microservices for enterprise applications. You’ll work on systems that run 24x7, contributing to architecture design, development, testing, and on‑call operational support.
This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys solving complex technical problems, working with event‑driven architectures, and maintaining production‑grade applications that prioritize reliability, performance, and maintainability.
What You’ll Do
Design and build RESTful APIs and backend microservices using Java and Kotlin
Develop and maintain Spring Boot or Micronaut applications supporting distributed, event‑driven systems
Build and manage Kafka producers and consumers for large‑scale data streaming
Implement observability and monitoring tools (OpenTelemetry, Grafana) for performance and reliability
Apply test‑driven development practices using tools such as JUnit and K6
Participate in code reviews, design sessions, and CI/CD workflows
Ensure containerized deployment with Docker and orchestration best practices
Provide rotating on‑call support for 24x7 systems and proactively resolve operational issues
Required Skills & Experience
5+ years of backend software development experience in large‑scale or enterprise environments
Proficiency in Java and Kotlin (Kotlin strongly preferred)
Expertise with Spring Boot or Micronaut frameworks
Strong background in RESTful API development, Postgres, and Docker
Hands‑on experience with Apache Kafka (producers, consumers, streams)
Familiarity with DevOps tools, CI/CD, and container orchestration
Proficient in test‑driven development and automated testing frameworks
Excellent problem‑solving, debugging, and cross‑functional communication skills
Preferred Skills
Experience working as a contractor or consultant in an enterprise environment
Exposure to cloud environments (AWS, GCP, Azure)
Knowledge of NoSQL databases and advanced architectural patterns (CQRS, event sourcing)
Familiarity with AI‑assisted coding tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT)
