Junior Controller – Contender Bicycles
Contender Bicycles is seeking a Junior Controller to join and grow our finance and accounting team. This is a unique opportunity to professionalize and scale a finance & accounting team from the ground up, with support from Private Equity leadership.
About the Role As the Junior Controller, you will be responsible for the day‑to‑day management of the company’s core financial operations. You will oversee everything from billing and payroll to financial reporting and cash flow management. You will work closely with company leadership and ownership to ensure that all financial data is accurate, reports are generated on time, and that the business is positioned for sustainable growth. Hands‑on analytical skills and a high level of competence with accounting processes are critical in this small team, high‑growth environment. The role reports directly to the President/CEO and works closely with Private Equity ownership.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee bookkeeping, billing, A/R, A/P, payroll, bank reconciliations, and general ledger activities
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and year‑end financial statements and investor reports
Ensure compliance with GAAP and internal accounting policies
Manage tax filings and coordinate with auditors and tax advisors
Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis with Ownership
Maintain and improve financial controls, procedures, and accounting processes
Track and manage company KPIs; enhancing existing ones and creating new metrics
Perform ad hoc reporting and support financial decision making across departments
Monitor cash flow and financial risk
Correspond with banking partners and manage covenant reporting and compliance
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree with an emphasis in accounting
Certified Public Accounting designation is preferred
Strong technical knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting requirements
3‑5+ years of accounting experience, preferably with a well‑regarded audit firm or similar role; experience in Consumer / Retail industry strongly preferred
Excellent organizational skills
Strong attention to detail with a focus on accuracy and integrity
Exceptional work ethic and the ability to work independently without considerable oversight
Job Location – Salt Lake City, UT; relocation required before starting work.
