Core IP Network Engineer II/III (Contract, Remote)
TEKsystems is currently seeking an experienced Core IP Network Engineer II or III for a 2‑year, 100% remote contract. The applicant must have 7+ years of experience with Core IP Network Engineering/Design in enterprise environments, preferably from an ISP background, and be proficient with MPLS, ISIS, BGP, Nokia and Juniper equipment, MOP creation, and Layer‑2/Layer‑3 networking.
Essential Duties
Test new technologies and service architectures in lab environments.
Plan, design, implement, and document new network implementations.
Complete engineering estimates and installation packages.
Provide escalation and troubleshooting support for operations teams.
Mentor junior staff to support the growth of technical knowledge and experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
High‑level understanding of high availability, redundancy, reliability, scalability, and security.
Advanced experience with configuration of Alcatel/Nokia, Cisco, Brocade, or Juniper routers and switches.
Advanced understanding of routing protocols such as BGP, ISIS, OSPF, EIGRP, etc.
Strong understanding of RSVP, LDP, and PIM.
Strong understanding of data center network design.
Strong understanding of common transport technologies (Ethernet, SONET, TDM, fiber, microwave, satellite, Wi‑Fi, cellular).
Extensive experience with layer‑2 Ethernet technologies (VLANs, STP, LACP, MC‑LAG).
Strong analytic, strategic, interpersonal, and critical‑thinking skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work collaboratively toward a common goal.
Ability to identify, report, and resolve technical problems consistently with established guidelines.
Qualifications
Minimum four years of relevant and progressive technical experience in a Carrier Ethernet or large ISP environment.
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, electrical engineering, mathematics, physics, telecommunications, or a related field is required.
Graduate degree in engineering may substitute for professional engineering experience on a year‑for‑year basis.

Juniper JNCIA / JNCIS
Cisco CCNA / CCNP
Nokia NRS I / NRS II
Brocade BCNE / BCNP
Experience Level Expert level.
