CAD Production Drafter / Engineer – Custom Cabinetry
Newark, NJ (Onsite – Full Time) $80,000–$110,000 Description
As a CAD Production Drafter / Engineer, you will be responsible for producing precise technical drawings, 3D models, part breakdowns, and machine‑ready files for fabrication. You’ll serve as the technical bridge between the design team and the production floor—working closely with project managers, CNC operators, and cabinet makers to bring complex custom designs into production. This role requires strong CAD proficiency, understanding of cabinet construction methods, and the ability to translate design intent into efficient, buildable components. Requirements
2–5 years of experience in CAD drafting, millwork engineering, or production design Strong command of 2D/3D CAD software (AutoCAD or similar) Ability to produce accurate, buildable shop drawings from architectural plans, field measurements, or concept sketches Understanding of cabinet construction, woodworking techniques, and joinery Familiarity with CNC manufacturing, nesting, and panel processing workflows Excellent communication and cross‑functional collaboration skills Knowledge of hardware specification and installation (BLUM, Häfele, etc.) Strong problem‑solving skills and attention to detail Responsibilities
Technical Drawing & Engineering
Prepare detailed shop drawings, part lists, and engineering documents from architectural or conceptual inputs Create and manage CNC‑ready files, including DXF, nested panel layouts, and toolpath‑ready outputs Translate complex custom cabinetry and millwork designs into accurate, buildable components Coordination & Collaboration
Work closely with project managers, production leads, and cabinet makers to ensure feasibility and accuracy Participate in design reviews and resolve technical issues during fabrication Documentation & Standards
Maintain drawing and part libraries for efficient reuse Support standardization of construction methods and documentation processes Specify and document hardware, materials, and accessories using industry‑standard systems Preferred Skills (Not Required)
Experience with CAM or nesting software for CNC programming Familiarity with architectural drawing review, markups, and redlines Experience on high‑end residential or commercial custom cabinetry projects Hands‑on experience in fabrication or cabinet installation Must-Haves
Proven CAD drafting and millwork engineering experience Deep understanding of cabinetry construction and CNC workflows Ability to communicate and coordinate effectively between design and production teams Final Invitation to Apply
