Job Description We are seeking an experienced Software Engineer 4 who will design, code, and test high-quality embedded software to meet product requirements. The role involves analyzing product and marketing requirements to derive and document software requirements and technical specifications, developing board support packages (BSPs), Linux device drivers, and contributing to Linux kernel optimization and tuning. You will build reliable software for memory‑constrained targets and optimize for low‑power operation on embedded Linux.

Responsibilities

Design, code, and test high‑quality embedded software to meet product requirements.

Analyze product and marketing requirements, derive and document software requirements and technical specifications.

Develop board support packages (BSPs), Linux device drivers, and contribute to Linux kernel optimization and tuning.

Build reliable software for memory‑constrained targets and optimize for low‑power operation on embedded Linux.

Create and maintain software architecture and design documents, including UML where applicable.

Write and maintain unit and integration tests; participate in CI/CD pipelines.

Lead and mentor developers, conduct code reviews, and raise engineering quality standards.

Collaborate closely with product managers and adjacent teams to ensure scope, quality, and timely delivery.

Follow CMMI and Agile/Scrum processes and contribute to continuous improvement.

Interpret schematic diagrams for electronic circuit boards to support bring‑up and debugging.

Essential Skills

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science (Master’s preferred).

Minimum of 5+ years professional software engineering experience, including embedded C/C++.

Expert‑level embedded Linux skills.

Experience in Linux device driver development and kernel optimization/tuning.

BSP development for embedded platforms.

Proven development for memory‑constrained systems and low‑power embedded Linux.

Strong debugging and problem‑solving skills.

Ability to interpret schematics for electronic circuit boards.

2+ years of team leadership experience, mentoring juniors, and coordinating onshore/offshore work.

Experience turning Marketing Requirements into technical requirements, architecture, and design artifacts.

Proficiency with SDLC best practices and shipping products to market.

Process familiarity with CMMI for Development and Agile practices (Scrum).

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Working knowledge of ARM architectures: Cortex A8, Cortex M3/M4; experience targeting ARM processors.

Demonstrated approaches to low power operation on embedded Linux.

UML for high‑level and detailed design.

Tooling experience with Microsoft TFS, Visual Studio, HP ALM, Git, Artifactory.

Experience as a Scrum Master.

Work Environment This is a remote‑first role tied to the site in NC, with approximately 20% travel within the U.S. and Canada for lab access, integration, team collaboration, or customer/partner engagements. The ability to travel cross‑border to Canada as needed is required.

Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Cary, North Carolina.

Pay And Benefits The pay range for this position is $65.00 - $70.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
