Overview The University of Georgia, College of Veterinary Medicine, is an American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care approved residency training facility for large animal resident (3 years) and fellowship (2 years) programs. This intermediate position is designed for graduates who have completed specialty training DVM positions (internship and residency) and who wish to advance toward faculty or private practice career paths. The caseload is approximately 85% equine and the remainder includes small ruminants, new‑world camelids, and cattle. The incumbent will be mentored by four emergency and three critical care clinicians and work within a large animal teaching hospital service that includes surgery, internal medicine, and rotating interns.
Responsibilities
Participate in the Large Animal Emergency Critical Care Service of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital (approx. 50% of time).
Teach veterinary students, interns, and residents through clinical rounds, classroom sessions, and laboratory instruction (approx. 40% of time).
Engage in scholarly activity and complete at least one original manuscript during the program (approx. 10% of time).
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent and 2 years of professional experience.
DVM or equivalent degree with 4 years post‑DVM clinical experience, including completion of an equine or large animal surgery approved by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (residency track). For the fellowship track, a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons—Large Animal is required.
Valid Georgia license (or willingness to obtain one) to practice veterinary medicine.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, and students.
Motivation to be an active, integral part of a busy large animal teaching hospital service.
Physical Demands
Normal veterinary work conditions.
Ability to lift 50 lbs.
Employment Details Salary:
$60,000–$67,500 Schedule:
Mon‑Fri, 8 am–5 pm with occasional weekends and after‑hours Benefits:
Eligible for benefits under TRS or ORP, with full employee status and 1.00 FTE.
