Overview
The Interventional Technologist Level 1 collaborates during procedures with physicians and senior technical staff and performs diagnostic and interventional radiographic procedures with the utmost concern for the patient\'s comfort and safety. Operates complex diagnostic and interventional radiographic equipment and supports procedures across IR departments, peri-operative environments, bedside, and other areas as needed. Cross-trains and supports IR sub-specialties including abdominal, vascular, vascular surgery, Neuro IR, neurosurgery, endoscopic interventions, and cardiac surgery. Responsibilities
Operate multi-modality imaging equipment to support interventional procedures; ensure proper patient demographics and documentation for medical records; properly position and immobilize patients; select imaging factors and utilize/initiate fluoroscopy. Assist physicians during procedures (table and/or C-arm positioning, setup for power injections, and advanced imaging techniques). Calibrate and verify operation of all equipment for daily use; troubleshoot and notify service personnel as needed; begin troubleshooting and call service engineers for repairs; ensure device storage capacity during daily QC checks. Perform post-processing of images (including reformatting and/or DYNA CT and advanced software for overlay, needle-guidance, embo-guidance and/or fusion). Ensure availability of prior imaging for procedures via workstation and/or Pushpage; operate ancillary equipment used in interventional procedures. Deliver patient care under licensed scope and training; maintain aseptic conditions; prepare procedure trays, medications, and equipment in accordance with policies; assist with patient preparation and sterile prep; follow infection control policies and product Instructions for Use. Assist in handling and management of labs and specimens obtained during IR procedures with correct labeling and appropriate delivery. Use appropriate PPE and precautions for hazardous materials (e.g., bloodborne pathogens, radiation) per unit policy; follow isolation precautions including during aerosol-generating procedures. Scrub in as a second operator as needed to assist the primary physician (catheter/wire management, administration of contrast, assisting to expedite cases and improve quality of care); reference ASRT House of Delegates guidance where applicable. Maintain documentation related to image-guided procedures (EPIC, Nuance, Mobile Aspects, Visage PACS, etc.); follow two-identifier patient identification (Name, MRN, DOB); manage inventory and replenishment within the patient\'s medical record using the division\'s inventory software; validate all procedure documentation. Keep the procedure area orderly, prepare equipment, stock supplies, and dispose of patient information securely; prepare for urgent cases; support sterile and soiled supply transport as needed in accordance with hospital guidelines; assist with RFID tagging and stocking of supplies under supervision. Under guidance of the inventory coordinator, assist with RFID tagging of products and stocking of medical/surgical supplies. Participate in teaching and supervision of staff and students within the department; precept new staff; work with IR managers and supervisors while following the Competency-Based Training program. Participate in research programs, quality assurance, and other quality improvement activities; stay current on imaging developments and new technologies and disposable supplies used in image-guided procedures. Participate in educational programs and meet state and national continuing education requirements (including Radiation Protection per state guidelines). Participate in a rotating on-call schedule for evening, weekend, and holiday coverage, including urgent and routine cases as determined by IR and subspecialty on-call physicians. Maintain professional, effective, and constructive working relationships; communicate effectively across all role groups and represent IR positively to staff outside the department. Qualifications
