ABOUT THE ROLE We are partnering with a growing non-profit in the SF Bay Area who is looking for an experienced and hands on CFO to join their team. The CFO will serve as a key member of the executive leadership team and a strategic partner to the CEO and Board of Directors. This individual will oversee all aspects of financial management including accounting, budgeting, forecasting, grants management, compliance, and reporting.
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING
Lead the organization’s overall financial strategy, planning, and analysis.
Oversee all accounting and finance functions, including general ledger, payroll, accounts payable / receivable, and cash management.
Develop and manage annual operating and capital budgets, ensuring alignment with programmatic and strategic goals.
Prepare timely and accurate financial reports for the executive team, Finance Committee, and Board of Directors.
Ensure compliance with GAAP, IRS, and federal / state nonprofit reporting requirements.
Manage and monitor grant funding, restricted / unrestricted funds, and contract reporting.
Partner with department leaders to develop budgets, monitor expenditures, and forecast financial outcomes.
Supervise and mentor the finance and accounting team, fostering professional growth and accountability.
Coordinate annual audit and liaise with external auditors, banks, and investment advisors.
Support long-term financial sustainability through cash flow analysis, investment oversight, and strategic planning.
Contribute to organization-wide initiatives, helping shape financial policies, procedures, and internal controls.
WHAT YOU NEED TO HAVE
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration (Master’s degree or CPA preferred).
10+ years of progressively responsible experience in nonprofit financial management, including at least 3 years in a senior leadership role.
Strong understanding of nonprofit accounting principles, fund accounting, and grant compliance.
Proven experience managing budgets, audits, and financial reporting for multi-funding streams.
Exceptional analytical, strategic planning, and problem-solving abilities.
Excellent leadership, communication, and team-building skills.
Proficiency in accounting and ERP systems (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage Intacct, NetSuite).
