Nearwater is seeking a highly experienced and detail-oriented Head of Operations to lead and manage the core operations of our complex, global financing business. This individual will be responsible for overseeing a team that handles the issuance, settlement, and movement of large-scale cash and securities, and ensuring operational excellence across a $50 billion liability global portfolio. This is a critical leadership role requiring deep expertise in financial operations, margin movements, and securities settlements. The role is pivotal in supporting scalable growth and transformation within a highly regulated and rapidly evolving financial environment.

Key Responsibilities Team Leadership & Management

Lead, mentor, and manage a high-performing operations team responsible for mission-critical cash and liability activities.

Oversee delivery across core operational functions including trade processing, settlements, treasury operations, client and counterparty servicing, and transaction management.

Establish clear objectives, performance standards, and accountability for the Operations team.

Ensure team structure is optimally aligned with the evolving and changing needs of our business lines considering jurisdictional regulations, systems and processes.

Continuously assess and enhance operational workflows, systems, and processes.

Build a strong leadership pipeline through coaching, mentoring, and performance management.

Foster a culture of operational excellence, accountability, and client-centricity

Operational Execution

Oversee the issuance and settlement of liabilities and cash securities across multiple accounts and counterparties.

Manage complex cash movements and ensure accuracy and timeliness of all transfers.

Direct and monitor Initial Margin (IM) and Variation Margin (VM) movements in compliance with regulatory and counterparty requirements.

Supervise the purchase and settlement of securities, ensuring coordination across counterparties and internal accounts.

Ensure timely payments and accurate retirement of liabilities across a global portfolio exceeding $50 billion.

Champion continuous improvement methodologies to optimize transaction processing and reduce error rates.

Technology

Partner with the firm’s Chief Technology Officer (CTO) to drive digital transformation across operational processes and reporting including, but not limited to, the buildout of proprietary technology to support our operational processes.

Evaluate new technological tools, vendors, and platforms that enhance operational workflows and capabilities and reduce operational risk.

Client Experience & Service Delivery

Own and ensure seamless operational support across the client interaction lifecycle — onboarding, account maintenance, reporting, and transactions.

Enhance client satisfaction by improving SLAs, reducing turnaround times, and minimizing operational disruptions.

Collaborate with product and relationship management teams to align operational support with evolving client needs.

Regulatory, Risk Management & Controls

Ensure global operations comply with all relevant financial regulations (e.g., SEC, MAS, AML/KYC frameworks).

Implement robust controls and oversight mechanisms to ensure the integrity and accuracy of all operations.

Proactively identify, elevate, and resolve operational risks or process inefficiencies.

Work closely with Legal, Compliance, and Risk teams to maintain strong operational controls and internal audit readiness.

In partnership with the firm’s Enterprise Risk function lead operational risk management initiatives, including business continuity planning and crisis response for the Operations department.

Qualifications & Skills

15+ years of senior leadership experience in financial services operations (e.g., banking, capital markets, asset management,).

Deep understanding of middle and back‑office operations, trade lifecycle management, risk and compliance.

Proven track record of managing teams and driving operational transformation in regulated environments.

Deep understanding of:

Liability issuance and settlement

Securities purchase/settlement mechanisms

Cash and margin movements (IM/VM)

Exceptional attention to detail, organizational, and analytical skills.

Strong command of risk and control frameworks within financial operations.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work across functions and geographies.

Experience working in a global team environment with diverse stakeholders.
