Job Summary The Baltimore City Department of Recreation and Parks is seeking a Community Aide, graphic designer. The successful candidate will gain practical, hands‑on experience in graphic design. Your work will directly help enhance the agency’s brand awareness and visibility within Baltimore City, as well as the agency’s engagement of the City’s residents. The position will have a maximum 30 hours per week.
Essential Functions
Create and design engaging graphics for use in marketing and promotional collateral.
Create and design logos, flyers, banners, posters, and graphics for social media.
Develop and design presentation templates for agency divisions.
Develop and design flyer templates for agency divisions.
Minimum Qualifications Education:
Recently graduated from a related bachelor’s program at a college/university.
OR
Equivalency Notes:
Have an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Self‑motivated with the ability to work independently
High attention to detail
Deadline oriented
Strong graphic design skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Possesses significant knowledge of typography, layout, illustration, and other graphic design skills to develop a range of advertisements, promotional materials, pamphlets, and other collateral materials in support of specific initiatives
Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite apps such as InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator
Experience with transfer of artwork and art files to print and press vendors
Ability to balance heavy workload with short‑ and long‑term project deadlines; ability to address changing priorities and works well under pressure
Additional Information Background Check Eligible candidates under final consideration for appointment to positions identified as positions of trust will be required to complete authorization for a Criminal Background Check and/or Fingerprint must be successfully completed.
Probation All persons, including current City employees, selected for this position must complete a mandatory six‑month probation.
