Location We are hiring primarily remote team members for this role, based in the San Francisco Bay Area, Los Angeles, New York City, or Minneapolis areas. While the role is primarily remote, you may be asked to come into the office as needed for in-person collaboration or team events. At this time, only candidates currently living in one of these locations will be considered. We’re currently unable to consider candidates outside these areas or offer relocation.
Position Overview The Data Science team partners with stakeholders across product, engineering, growth marketing, and finance to uncover insights that drive key business decisions. As a Senior Manager of Data Science, you’ll lead and grow a team of data scientists, build scalable analytics processes, and foster cross‑functional partnerships that ensure data is always driving outcomes in service of Calm’s mission.
Responsibilities
Lead, mentor, and support a team of data scientists, providing clear objectives, effective feedback, and career development opportunities
Collaborate with stakeholders across product, growth marketing, finance, and engineering to translate business problems into impactful data science solutions
Lead and conduct analytics‑focused areas of product development: ideation, exploration, opportunity sizing, metric design, experimentation, and impact measurement
Partner with product teams to perform deep‑dive analysis on user engagement, growth, and retention to guide product development and business strategy
Define and evolve Calm’s data science and analytics architecture, ensuring systems and tools (Amplitude, Tableau, Mode, internal platforms) scale with business needs
Automate data flows, build internal data products, and empower decision‑makers with timely and actionable insights
Make strategic “buy vs build” decisions on tooling and infrastructure investments for data science
Establish and roll out best practices for experimentation, measurement, and cross‑functional collaboration
Align team initiatives with Calm’s broader mission and company‑wide goals
Qualifications
6+ years of analytics experience, ideally with digital consumer products or subscription businesses
2+ years of experience directly managing data scientists or analysts
You have led teams with expertise in experimentation and causal inference
Growth mindset: receives feedback easily and incorporates it quickly
Proactive executor: thoughtful in approach and decisive in decisions
Pragmatic: balance scrappiness and rigor
Proficient in SQL, Python/R; you can roll up your sleeves when necessary
Strong relationship management and executive presentation skills
Possess an understanding of data modeling techniques, warehouses, and event streams
Ability to translate complex analysis into insights that are accessible to non‑technical stakeholders, and prioritize work based on highest business impact vs. technical complexity

Compensation & Benefits Calm uses a geographic pay model that determines salaries based on the location where an employee lives. For this position, the base pay ranges across Calm’s pay tiers is as follows: $198,000 – $275,000. The base pay range represents the low and high ends of Calm’s salary range for this position. Not all candidates will be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. Exact salary will ultimately depend on multiple factors, which include the successful candidate’s geographic location, skills, experience, and other qualifications. This role is also eligible for equity + comprehensive benefits, 401(k), and flexible time off.
