The Ultrasound section of Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM)/Radiology performs a variety of diagnostic and interventional ultrasound exams for diagnosis of disease processes. The Senior Ultrasound Technologist must be fully competent in all facets of the job, this includes OBGYN exams/procedures including high risk patients and complicated fetal anomalies. The Senior Ultrasound Technologist provides highly competent technical support in the performance of examinations to provide diagnostic images for interpretation by a Maternal‑Fetal Medicine (MFM) specialist.
The Senior Ultrasound Tech is responsible for performing low and high risk perinatal Obstetric (OB) ultrasound examinations in accordance with established departmental guidelines and protocols. The Senior Ultrasound Tech must possess expertise in prenatal diagnosis and OB ultrasound with the ability to recognize normal and pathological conditions and apply additional modalities as indicated (i.e. Doppler, 3D/4D).

American Registration for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) certification with applicable credential (e.g. Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS), Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS), Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT), etc.) or equivalent certification
ARDMS in OB/GYN
American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) or UC Davis Health CPR
No Minimum Education required.
No Minimum Work Experience required.
Capably demonstrates the knowledge and ability to operate ultrasound equipment to produce a quality product.
Must be able to adapt to new programs and equipment upgrades as radiological field advances.
Ability to follow extensive and detailed protocols.
Ability to use a checklist while performing studies.
Analytical skills necessary to perform non‑routine, complex ultrasound studies.
Ability to perform detailed and complex ultrasounds on a varied patient population.
Ability to understand complex fetal anomalies and their associated disease processes and maternal disorder.
Physical ability to capably perform all functions of a staff sonographer.
Demonstrate ability to recognize normal human anatomy, certain pathological conditions, and the ability to utilize ultrasound equipment to differentiate disease processes and artifacts.
Ability to function and remain calm under multiple direction and/or fluctuations of work volume.
Skill to organize workload by priority to produce a sufficient volume of work in a timely manner.
Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
Demonstrates good verbal and written communication skills; documents and reports clearly and concisely. Conveys instructions, explanations, directions, and information appropriately.
Must effectively read, write, and verbally communicate in the English language.
Demonstrates an ability to express self in all areas of communication (verbal, written, nonverbal); utilizes effective listening and questioning techniques.

Ability to assist healthcare practitioners during surgery or other sterile procedures.
Preferred Qualifications
Recent experience in Perinatology.
Experience with complex anatomic ultrasound (level II studies), Doppler, multiples, nuchal translucency and ultrasound guidance for amniocentesis.
Interest in further training in prenatal fetal surgery (Laser therapy, MMC repair) and guidance for chorionic chronic villi sampling.
