Overview
OSP Field Engineer, Network Development The OSP Field Engineer, Network Development will perform field verification and validation for planned FTTH OSP distribution, core routes and planned active OLT cabinet locations. Primary duties include physical ride out design review of planned routes and cabinet locations to determine constructability conditions to allow go/no go decisions to be made by the Market Expansion Team. Additional responsibilities include working basic field tools like ARC Field Maps and Survey 123, GIS-based tools like ARCGIS to edit or generate HLDs and economics. The ideal candidate should show initiative and be motivated to grow and learn, and provide second-level support and training to junior-level Design Engineers through collaboration.

Key Responsibilities
Field verification of OSP system design for new markets, new developments, and expansion of FTTH fiber infrastructure. Performs field visits to verify planned routes and locations to gather route and right-of-way data. Performs preliminary underground and aerial plant engineering, including make-ready and pole loading assessments. Performs high-level competitive analysis through field visits and site surveys. Prepares preliminary cost estimates and material requirements for projects. Uses CAD/GIS design software to produce fiber designs and budgetary bill of materials. Identifies jurisdiction for relative permits related to ROW, Railroad, and DOTs. Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure effective operation of the department.
Qualifications
Associate STEM degree or equivalent experience preferred. A minimum of 5 years’ experience in Outside Plant Engineering Design, Construction management, or OSP Field Inspector. Must have a valid driver’s license. Ability to communicate orally and in writing, as well as give effective presentations to Supervisors and Managers. Additionally, able to constructively escalate problems and issues. Ability to work independently as well as with a team of senior-level engineers and supervisors to develop solutions to complete assigned tasks. Advanced knowledge of outside plant engineering and field design methods. Practical understanding of permit process for city/county/DOT/Railroad permits. Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office software including Excel and Word is required. Intermediate knowledge of GIS systems is required.
