Job Description: We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Payroll Manager to lead our payroll team. This role involves overseeing daily payroll operations, ensuring compliance with regulations, and improving processes while collaborating with our HR and accounting teams.
Responsibilities
Hire, train, and manage payroll team members.
Oversee daily operations and ensure timely completion of payroll and HR tasks.
Conduct performance evaluations and manage employee relations in accordance with company policy.
Promote cross-training and team collaboration through effective delegation and support.
Serve as HRIS System Administrator; manage system configurations and updates.
Oversee payroll software setup for timekeeping, benefits, and earnings/deductions.
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
Process multi-state payroll, including commissions, garnishments, and benefits arrears.
Research and maintain tax jurisdictions; validate payroll exceptions for accuracy.
Implement SOX controls and perform regular audits for data accuracy and legal compliance.
Approve and audit timecards, employee setup, and accruals.
Generate custom reports and HR metrics; prepare monthly and quarterly reporting.
Lead audit preparation and response for 401k, Workers’ Comp, SOX, UI, and benefit billing.
Provide timely and accurate responses to payroll and HR inquiries.
Train managers and employees on payroll systems and timecard usage.
Collaborate with HR leadership and serve as a backup across team functions.
Identify and implement operational efficiencies.
Maintain standardized procedures and documentation.
Support a positive and productive team environment.
Qualifications
Proficiency in payroll processing, including multi-state payroll.
Experience in HRIS management and payroll tax analysis.
Ability to conduct data analysis and reporting.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel, and Adobe Pro.
Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations.
7+ years of payroll processing experience.
3+ years of human resource management experience.
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, or Human Resources, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Proficiency with an HRIS software (UKG preferred but not required).
Commission-based payroll experience.
Work Environment The position offers hybrid flexibility with three days in office (Monday to Wednesday) in Plymouth, MN. The role reports to the Director of Human Resources and involves close collaboration with a great HR team and occasional partnership with the accounting team.
Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $48.08 - $52.88/hr.
