Position Summary The Director of Engagement and Annual Giving (DEAG) serves to support the Office of Institutional Advancement and Saint Martin’s University by overseeing all aspects of University’s alumni engagement and annual giving programs. This position will direct efforts for increasing audience engagement and annual giving revenue. Reporting to the Vice President of Institutional Advancement, the Director of Engagement and Annual Giving designs and implements a multi-year strategic development plan to grow engagement and annual support while increasing participation across all constituent types. The director also designs and implements prospect identification and qualification programs and provides a range of prospect pipeline activities to support Saint Martin’s fundraising goals and objectives. This position also maintains a focused portfolio of annual leadership gift prospects.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
In conjunction with the Vice President of Institutional Advancement, develop and execute strategic program activities in relation to broad based and targeted audience engagement and annual giving efforts which encourage philanthropy in all forms and develop a pipeline of current and future support for Saint Martin’s University
Work with leadership to establish individual goals and objectives and coordinate Advancement activities around a comprehensive Engagement and Annual Giving calendar.
Serve as the lead Advancement liaison with the National Alumni Board and regional chapter leadership.
Develop and implement a coordinated communication and solicitation strategy involving email, direct mail, crowdfunding, CRM (Slate)-based outreach, giving day, and social media focused on increasing engagement and levels of annual support for the University.
Lead and develop staff and teams to ensure annual and long-term goals for engagement and annual giving are met and a robust pipeline is established and fostered across the organization from initial engagement through major giving.
Identify best practices, opportunity for capacity building and growth, solicitation strategies, and stewardship for alumni relations and annual giving programs.
Oversee multi-channel (mail, phone, email, social media, etc.) mass engagement and targeted solicitation strategies to increase participation and giving.
Direct and execute alumni engagement activities including Reunion and Homecoming as well as other regional and virtual events.
Develop and implement strategies to encourage increased engagement and leadership giving.
Meet with alumni regularly to identify and recruit volunteers to support Alumni, Advancement and University goals and objectives
Partner with Advancement Services team to obtain data, create and request solicitation and stewardship lists, and utilize and update reports.
Assist in developing and growing an affinity-based engagement and giving model to include each of the University’s colleges and schools, library, athletics, etc.
Conceptualize engagement and annual giving promotional materials and visual aspects of specific campaigns while working closely with the Marketing and Communications department and/or outside vendors on the execution of direct communication efforts.
Reviews and coordinate all alumni-related email communications, including but not limited to monthly e-newsletter, surveys, and solicitations, before getting final approval from supervisor.
Develop and maintain systems to ensure the regular solicitation and expansion of donors for annual scholarships and for tracking this process. Identify new opportunities for increased annual scholarship revenue.
Design and implement strategies for including students in alumni activities. Informs students of Saint Martin's University about the Alumni community.
Interpret and analyze biographical and financial information on University alumni, business leaders, and other individuals based on Advancement strategies and objectives.
Proactively identify new individual, corporate and foundation prospects through alerts, analysis, screening information, data mining techniques, and demographic searches to grow prospect pool.
Prepare prospect research profiles and confidential briefing documents for use by the University President, Institutional Advancement Vice President, and development staff.
Support gift officers in the generation of multi-faceted cultivation and solicitation strategies.
Continuously reviews news and industry sources for trends in research, business, finance, higher education, and philanthropy.
Use appropriate software applications to generate data, analyze data and produce reports in an executive summary format, as charts, or a combination of the two.
Assist in developing, documenting, and implementing prospect management policies and procedures.
Maintain and analyzes prospect and donor data and help maintain information in the database.
Carry a portfolio of leadership annual giving level prospects and meet or exceed targets for annual gift asks, annual personal visits, and solicitations.
Collaborate with colleagues and participate in general Institutional Advancement and University programs and “all-hands-on-deck” activities.
Track alumni engagement and annual giving metrics and goals with support from Advancement Services and other departments across campus
Recommend and/or implement strategies to meet changing conditions and situations.
Find and/or access alumni stories for publication on social media, web and print.
Field alumni related questions.
Occasional travel for regional events, primarily in-state, will occur.
Support the University and Abbey archives.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Is supportive of a Catholic, Benedictine philosophy of education and able to articulate and support the University’s mission statement.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Proficiency in using fundraising (CRM) databases. Proficiency and experience in Microsoft Office products, spreadsheets (including advanced Excel functions.
Experience with developing marketing communication programs to support annual funds, comprehensive campaigns, other major gift initiatives, and fundraising and stewardship events at a university or other not-for-profit institution.
Successfully pass a background check
Preferred Qualifications
Three of more years of experience working in advancement fundraising.
Advancement/Development experience within an educational institution.
Experience with the Slate CRM
