Your role in the mission The Environmental, Health, and Safety Officer will be responsible for providing strategic leadership in developing, implementing, and enforcing our company’s ISO 45001 Health and Safety Management System.

ISO 45001 Implementation & Oversight Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the ISO 45001 Health and Safety Management System, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and industry best practices. Lead employees at all levels to foster consultation and participation for maximum worker engagement.

Regulatory Compliance Oversee Federal and State OSHA compliance and other regulatory EHS requirements, working closely with Type One’s Quality Assurance team to integrate safety into broader operational strategies.

Health and Safety Program Development Establish and maintain comprehensive health and safety protocols, including PPE programs, incident reporting procedures, employee safety training, and risk assessments.

Hazard Analysis & Risk Mitigation Conduct and coordinate hazard analyses in collaboration with Engineering and other departments. Provide safety leadership for our stellarator builds with external partners, ensuring alignment with partner safety expectations.

Site Health and Safety Monitoring Monitor compliance and safe practices during all onsite work, including external partner and contractor locations. Conduct regular audits and inspections to ensure adherence to health and safety standards.

Health and Safety Audit Procedures

Internal audits of facilities, equipment, and processes to ensure compliance with ISO 45001 and applicable regulations.

Scheduling and conducting periodic audits across all operational sites.

Documenting findings, identifying non‑conformities, and tracking corrective actions.

Collaborating with department leads to ensure timely resolution of audit findings.

Reporting audit outcomes to leadership and integrating results into continuous improvement initiatives.

Incident Investigation & Corrective Action Lead investigations of incidents and near‑misses, identify root causes, and ensure timely implementation of corrective and preventive actions.

Training & Culture Building Develop and deliver health and safety training programs. Coach employees and leaders to foster a strong safety culture and promote continuous improvement.

Reporting & Communication Partner with the Type One Safety Committee to compile and present quarterly safety reports to the Board of Directors. Provide monthly safety updates to the company and maintain clear documentation of safety activities. Support Top Management in leading Management Reviews.

Emergency Preparedness Develop and maintain emergency response plans, conduct drills, and ensure readiness across all operational sites.

What you’ll need

Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety (preferred), Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field.

Minimum 10 years of experience in a safety leadership role, preferably in manufacturing, engineering, or high‑risk environments.

Experience in environmental, health, and safety training in industrial environments.

In‑depth knowledge of ISO 45001, EHS regulations, and other relevant EHS standards.

Strong analytical skills with experience in risk assessment, safety audits, and incident investigation.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; able to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels.

Certification in safety (e.g., CSP, ASP, OSHA 30) is highly desirable.
