Software Development Engineer III Expedia Technology teams partner with our Product teams to create innovative products, services, and tools to deliver high‑quality experiences for travelers, partners, and our employees. A singular technology platform powered by data and machine learning provides secure, differentiated, and personalized experiences that drive loyalty and traveler satisfaction.

This SDE III role sits in the Core Experience Team under Supply Partner Experience. The Expedia Supply Partner team is the business powerhouse for Expedia Group and contributes the largest share of our company’s revenue. Our Lodging Platform operations are global, with representation in 8 countries and 17 offices. Core Experience team is responsible for common capabilities, such as navigation, landing page, and ai‑chat for lodging partner portals. You’ll be helping to build gen‑AI/LLM based capability to provide insight, leverage existing data to help market‑manager share better coaching and guidance to supply partners.

In this role, you will:

Design, develop, debug, and modify software components and tools, applying strong algorithms, data‑structures, and system‑design principles.

Rapidly prototype MVPs and help craft and implement the team’s technical vision with peers and senior engineers.

Collaborate across geographically distributed, cross‑functional teams; contribute to user story creation and agile processes.

Participate in code reviews, maintain technical/partner documentation, and drive issues to resolution.

Mentor and unblock team members while committing to continuous improvement of the software and development process.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science or a related technical field, or equivalent professional experience.

Experienced in backend and/or full stack development – 5+ years of experience with Bachelor’s; 3+ years of experience with Master’s.

Advanced proficiency in Java, Kotlin, or similar programming language.

Background in software architecture and prior experience leading design of client side and server‑side architecture.

Knowledge of cloud platforms such as AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure.

Experience designing and building microservices and RESTful APIs.

Preferred Qualifications

Proficient in modern CSS, JavaScript, TypeScript, and front‑end frameworks such as ReactJS.

Prior experience working with Data Science & Machine Learning teams.

Experience working with machine learning models, including prompt engineering for LLMs, and output evaluation to ensure model performance and reliability.

Knowledge of big data technologies such as Apache Spark, Hadoop, or Kafka.

Prior experience with GraphQL.

The total cash range for this position in Seattle is $137,500.00 to $192,500.00. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to $220,000.00, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role.

Starting pay for this role will vary based on multiple factors, including location, available budget, and an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience. Pay ranges may be modified in the future.
