Academic Success Coordinator – First Year/Sophomore Center Provides clear proactive advising, education, and guidance for first‑year and sophomore students and families, directing them to appropriate institutional resources and assisting them in creating and adhering to plans for academic success. Serves as a point of contact for students, families, and faculty, both proactively and for those experiencing academic difficulty. Works directly with individual students, their families, and concerned faculty and staff to resolve academic concerns. Serves as the primary Academic Advisor to a caseload of students.

Essential Functions 1. Direct Service to Students

Provide proactive intervention throughout the first and second years to a group of incoming FY students by major, using a communication plan and intervention strategy approved by the Student Success Work Team.

Respond to academic concerns about students within FERPA guidelines; meet with families, faculty, and students to resolve issues and address concerns about college policies, procedures, and processes.

Monitor and respond to Curry's centralized web‑based Academic Alert system to coordinate early interventions with students.

Monitor and respond to the Academic Success email account.

Monitor student progress, provide extensive outreach, and assist students with problem solving, particularly connecting them with appropriate supports.

Meet with students on academic probation to develop, monitor, and evaluate student educational plans in accordance with Satisfactory Academic Progress guidelines.

Meet with students on matters of academic integrity, grade appeal, and academic appeals.

Communicate directly with students to positively impact timely graduation in partnership with Advising and the Registrar's Office.

Provide information to the Academic Petition and Dismissal Committees regarding appeals on academic policies for individual students.

Serve as the primary Academic Advisor to a caseload of students by major and assist with pre‑registration of new students.

Escalate high‑need students to the Assistant Director for further follow‑up as needed.

2. Direct Service to Parents and Families

Provide proactive information to parents and families to guide expectations and inform them about academic processes and policies.

3. Retention & Student Success Program Planning

Engage in networking across the institution to connect students with appropriate resources supporting their success.

Collaborate with student services, academic support, technology, and others to coordinate and execute student retention strategies based on best practices and institutional research.

Under the direction of the Assistant Director of Advising & Academic Success, develop, execute, and evaluate activities to support at‑risk students, including workshops, print and web materials, and peer support.

Engage in continuous efforts to improve students' experience, identify needs for additional resources or interventions, and assess the effectiveness of student success efforts.

Serve on the Cares Team.

Work collaboratively with colleagues in Office of Advising & Academic Success and on the Cares Team through cross‑training, information sharing, and planning.

Other duties as assigned.

4. SAP Compliance

Meet with students to develop, monitor, and evaluate educational plans in accordance with Satisfactory Academic Progress guidelines.

Maintain currency with Satisfactory Academic Progress policies and related internal policies and external regulations.

Serve on SAP Appeal review committee.

Additional Functions

Respect and maintain confidentiality, parameters of operation, professional protocols, and individual privacy.

Initiate independent actions and initiatives, including creative problem‑solving with families and a keen awareness of program requirements and academic counseling options.

Assess complex situations and respond with a clear, supportive, and consistent message.

Job Requirements Essential Characteristics

Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree in Higher Education Administration, Counseling Psychology, or a related field.

Two to three years of experience in a higher education setting with sustained work providing academic support/advising and program planning for students; experience educating families and students about academic issues.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong organizational skills, and effective customer service and interpersonal skills.

Demonstrable computing skills and efficiency utilizing complex computing applications on the systems and programs of the College, including Microsoft Office Suite.

Ability to follow up, follow through, multitask, set priorities, and adhere to deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with Banner.

Experience working with students and faculty around issues of teaching and learning at a small, liberal arts‑based college.

Experience working with students on developmental learning in the context of an institution that recognizes and supports students with learning disabilities.

Salary Range $55,000 to $60,000
