Overview
Job Purpose
The New York Stock Exchange (an Intercontinental Exchange company) is seeking a lawyer to support the NYSE’s equities and options exchanges and related business units, with a focus on options trading. The primary responsibilities of the attorney in this position will include (1) day‑to‑day legal advice to business and regulatory personnel on applicable SEC and self‑regulatory organization (SRO) rules; and (2) supporting exchange rulemaking efforts, including drafting new and amended exchange rules to extend NYSE trading, technology, and listing capabilities. The ideal candidate has broad markets expertise, including regulatory experience and a strong familiarity with financial markets. Experience interpreting technology specifications a plus.
Responsibilities
Provide legal and regulatory advice to business units on application of exchange rules and federal securities laws, primarily with respect to equities and options trading
Research, analysis, and written work product regarding SEC and SRO rules, including drafting SRO rules and comment letters in support of NYSE rule filings and in response to SEC proposed rules
Interact with SEC staff as appropriate, including during the exchange rulemaking process
Engage with business executives, market participants, and regulators on complex business initiatives
Maintain expert‑level knowledge of the laws that apply to exchanges and SROs
Assist with responses to inquiries from the SEC and other regulators related to examinations and inspections
Collaborate on ad hoc and special projects
Knowledge and Experience
JD degree
Admission to (or ability to obtain admission to) the New York State Bar
5+ years of relevant legal experience
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to effectively communicate about complex issues
Strong collaborative skills, as well as the ability to work independently, in a fast‑paced environment
Extensive knowledge of financial markets and securities laws, as well as equities and options market structure
Ability to manage multiple workstreams simultaneously and complete projects with tight deadlines
Experience at a regulatory agency or dealing with regulators (strongly preferred)
New York Base Salary Range
The expected base salary for this role, if located in New York, is between $210,000 - 260,000 USD. The base salary range does not include Intercontinental Exchange’s incentive compensation. While we provide this range as general guidance, at ICE we compensate employees based on the skillset and experience of the individual. Regular full‑time ICE employees are eligible for a suite of competitive employee benefits, including healthcare coverage (medical, dental and vision), a 401(k) plan, life insurance, time off, and paid leave for qualifying circumstances.
