Position description

Division of Professional and Continuing Education (PACE) - UC Merced

The

Teacher Preparation Program (TPP) , housed within the Division of Professional and Continuing Education (PACE) at the University of California, Merced, invites applications for

Part-Time Instructor

positions for the 2025-2026 academic year, including the summer 2026 term.

These are

by-agreement, semester-based contract appointments , filled based on instructional need. Reappointment, if applicable, is contingent upon program demand, performance, and course availability. Instructors must be capable of delivering course content independently while collaborating with TPP leadership and faculty teams to support program goals.

Instructional Expectations:

Participate in mandatory instructor orientation and training

Attend monthly instructor meetings

Teach assigned TPP courses either

face-to-face or online , typically scheduled from

4:30-6:50 PM or 7:10-9:30 PM , Monday through Thursday

Be available for course preparation, grading, and student support outside of class hours

Serve as a rotating panelist for

program admission interviews

of prospective teacher candidates

Review and respond to student course evaluations; engage in professional development as recommended for program continuous improvement

Complete

required UC trainings , including:

Abusive Conduct in the Workplace

Cybersecurity Awareness

Sexual Violence and Sexual Harassment Prevention

UC Ethical Values and Conduct

Workplace Violence Prevention

(Approximately 2 hours total; satisfies requirements under 2 CCR 11024, Government Code 12950.1, AB 1825/2053, 34 CFR 668.46 [VAWA], and UC policy)

Qualifications

Basic qualifications

A minimum of five (5) years of teaching experience (TK-16)

Teaching experience in the appropriate content area

A master's degree in a related field

A valid California Clear Credential with English Learner Authorization or CLAD

(A terminal degree-e.g., Ph.D., Ed.D., or J.D.-may be substituted for the credential)

Knowledge of California content standards (relevant to Teacher Preparation courses)

Knowledge of the California Teaching Performance Expectations (TPEs)

Knowledge of current educational theory and practice

Demonstrated experience using effective support strategies for English learners and students with diverse learning needs

Experience with online instruction, including use of learning management systems and Zoom

Additional qualifications

Master's degree in Education or a related field, and a valid California Clear Credential

Coursework or equivalent scholarly preparation relevant to the assigned course

Teaching experience in TK-12 public school settings

Preferred qualifications

Eight (8) or more years of experience in teaching, leadership, or clinical practice within TK-12 educational settings

Original research or scholarly work in the relevant content area

Experience serving as an Academic Coach or Teacher on Special Assignment (TOSA) in the appropriate content area

Demonstrated pedagogical expertise, strong content knowledge, and effective communication skills

Experience working with adult learners

Understanding and appreciation of the cultural and linguistic diversity of students in the San Joaquin Valley

Ability to support teacher candidates in developing an educational philosophy that fosters equitable and inclusive learning environments
