About the Role We are recruiting on behalf of a well-established civil construction company in

Columbia, SC

seeking an experienced

Utilities Foreman . The successful candidate will lead field crews on underground utility projects, ensuring all safety, quality, and production goals are achieved. This position requires hands-on leadership, technical knowledge of utility installation, and the ability to manage people, equipment, and resources efficiently.

Key Responsibilities Lead and supervise utility crews on construction projects. Ensure compliance with company policies, OSHA/MSHA safety standards, and all regulatory requirements. Operate and maintain heavy equipment safely and effectively. Read and interpret construction and engineering plans. Set up and manage GPS base stations and GPS-guided equipment. Conduct Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), toolbox talks, and other safety meetings. Identify production challenges and implement solutions to maintain schedule and quality. Maintain accurate records including fuel logs, equipment hours, and load counts. Oversee daily inspections, routine maintenance, and minor repairs on equipment. Maintain clean and organized job sites and vehicles. Manage receipts, expense reports, and fuel inventory accurately. Promote teamwork, safety, and productivity among crew members.

Knowledge & Experience Installation of storm drainage, water, and sewer systems. Site preparation, grading, and layout procedures. Operation of heavy equipment (loaders, dozers, excavators, compactors, etc.). Concrete, masonry, and grouting work. Erosion control and general road construction practices. Equipment operation, safety, and maintenance procedures. Ability to interpret engineered drawings and staking layouts.
