Job Summary The Tax Manager, Alternative Investments assists in providing tax compliance & consulting services to our Venture Capital, Private Equity, Hedge Fund, and Real Estate clients.

Job Duties Tax Compliance

Ensures both that clients comply with all applicable authorities while minimizing their tax and reporting burdens, and that self and client service teams comply with all Firm policies, standards, and the BDO Tax Quality Manual ("TQM").

Applies understanding of client’s unique circumstances, documentation, and other requirements mandated by law and prepares required filings (tax returns) using a system of review and documentation to ensure full compliance while keeping the client’s tax and reporting burden low.

Ensures all data needed to comply with filing requirements are collected; identifies and properly communicates missing items to prepare return.

Utilizes Firm compliance software to maximize efficiency in the tax prep process.

Effectively collaborates with Principals, Tax Seniors, and Associates on completion of projects, following up with Open items lists.

Delivers high quality federal, state, and international tax compliance services.

Leads complex engagements with a team of tax professionals.

Manages the engagement including billing, collections, and the budget for projects.

Builds and manages client relationships.

Ensures documentation and conclusions are captured in the client tax file.

Tax Consulting

Assists with identifying, developing, recommending, and implementing efficient and effective tax strategies.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Manages and mentors teams of Tax Seniors and Associates.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Education

Bachelor’s Degree, required; focus in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Statistics, preferred. Master’s Degree in Accounting or Taxation, preferred.

Experience

Five (5) or more years of relevant tax experience and/or public accounting, private industry accounting, or consulting/professional services experience, required.

Financial Services industry experience supporting Alternative Investment funds including Venture Capital, Private Equity, Real Estate, and Hedge Funds, preferred.

Proficiency in the taxation of partnerships, preferred.

Prior supervisory experience required.

License/Certifications

CPA certification, Attorney (admitted to practice in a U.S. jurisdiction), or Internal Revenue Service Enrolled Agent ("EA") (or the equivalent of one of these designations), required.

Possession of other professional degrees or certifications applicable to role beneficial.

Software

Experience with Microsoft Office Tools (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook), and Adobe Acrobat, preferred.

Experience with tax research databases, preferred.

Proficient in tax compliance process software, preferred.

Salaries Individual salaries that are offered to a candidate are determined after consideration of numerous factors including but not limited to the candidate’s qualifications, experience, skills, and geography.

California Range: $112,000 - $150,000 Colorado Range: $90,000 - $130,000 Illinois Range: $105,000 - $130,000 Maryland Range: $113,000 - $120,000 Massachusetts Range: $120,000 - $127,000 Minnesota Range: $90,000 - $120,000 New Jersey Range: $115,000 - $140,000 NYC/Long Island/Westchester Range: $125,000 - $160,000 Washington Range: $110,000 - $125,000 Washington DC Range: $120,000 - $140,000
