The
Cost Accountant
role is responsible for setting and maintaining accurate process cost information and standard costs, reconciliation of standard costs to actual costs, maintenance of perpetual inventory system, day‑to‑day operations, supporting the month‑end close process and annual operating budget.
This position prepares and presents financial reports and Key Performance Indicators to various functional leaders that will improve operational performance; identifies areas of opportunity and efficiency and works with functional leaders to implement as appropriate.
Educational Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in Finance or Accounting or will consider a combination of education and experience
Skills and Experience
2+ years of Cost Accounting in a Manufacturing Environment preferred
Must have a Cost systems background
Excellent analytical skills with a focus on accuracy and attention to detail
Experience and exposure to fundamental accounting principles
Proficient use of financial systems and advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office (e.g. Excel, Word, PowerPoint – spreadsheet creation/editing, pivot tables, data analysis / manipulation and formula creation, etc.)
Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communications
Responsibilities
Perform month‑end close activities including posting journal entries, analyzing manufacturing variances to budget, forecast and prior year, material price variance, usage variance, and efficiencies.
Perform root‑cause analysis and trace‑back variances to the underlying activities.
Perform account reconciliations, applicable roll‑forward activities including inventories, reserves, and applicable accruals.
Adhere to all internal, external audit requirements and GAAP for financial statements.
Support physical inventories and cycle count programs.
Prepare, analyze, distribute and present financial reports and summaries. Partner with functional leaders to review financial operations, resolve issues, analyze financial data and make recommendations to assist functional leaders in making decisions.
Analyze monthly results and trending data to support the estimate cycle, including risk and opportunity assessments.
Support the annual standard cost build and budgeting process. This includes ongoing cost system maintenance, determination, product routings, BOM updates, partnering with Plant Engineers to set product specifications, productivity changes and overall process improvements.
Work with cross‑functional leadership and teams on a day‑to‑day basis to understand cost drivers and implement cost controls, provide departmental spend reporting and analyses to managers, provide routine and ad‑hoc analyses as needed.
Document and cross‑train all applicable costing processes.
Maintain housekeeping.
Comply with safety rules.
Comply with environmental regulations.
Be aware of departmental Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
Perform other duties as assigned.
