Make your impact within a rapidly growing Fintech Company The Data Operations organization builds capabilities and practices that support the usage of data across BILL. The team supports stakeholders across the company to understand their needs, collect applicable requirements, develop solutions, solicit feedback, deploy to the data ecosystem, and showcase the result. Engineers on the Data Operations team bring a sense of pragmatic perfectionism, doing their best work every day and delivering quality data products to those whom they support.

Responsibilities As a Staff Data Engineer on the team, you’ll contribute to the design, development, and principles of our ecosystem to directly support the highest impact needs of BILL’s data consumers. You will collaborate closely with marketing, data science, analytics, and product teams to ensure seamless integrations, scalable practices, and actionable insights. Your work will guide and strengthen our core capabilities, as we evolve and mature our platform.

On‑going Expectations:

Design and deploy branches of our architecture that persist and grow over time

Ensure data quality, security, and governance best practices across the platform

Collaborate cross‑functionally to translate business requirements into technical solutions

Define policies that enable the needs of the business, setting simple, stable, repeatable patterns

Mentor team members and foster a culture of continuous improvement

Take ownership of broad needs of the business, bringing experience and guidance to solve

Bring an R&D mindset that pushes the data stack into new capabilities and uses

We’d love to chat if you have: Qualifications

BS/BA in Computer Science, Information Systems, Mathematics, or a related field (or equivalent experience)

5+ years in Data Engineering or combination of Software + Data Engineering roles

3+ years in financial services and/or SaaS environments

Proven track record of integrating customer data into business operations from the ground up

Strong candidates bring software engineering, developer operations (DevOps), or enterprise data systems experience

Competencies

Expert proficiency in SQL (multiple dialects preferred) and Python

Deep understanding of ETL/ELT design patterns, data ingestion methods, and orchestration frameworks

Advanced knowledge of both normalized database design and warehouse data modeling

Demonstrated ability to use data at hand to solve business cases, from start to finish

History of novel solutions and original design to solve real world problems

Able to exercise a “builder” mindset, but knows when to buy

Bringing start‑up, team building, or leadership (formal or informal) experience is a plus

The estimated base salary range for this role is noted below for our office location in Draper, UT. Additionally, this role is eligible to participate in BILL’s bonus and equity plan. Our ranges for each role and job level are based on a variety of factors including candidate experience, expertise, and geographic location and may vary from the amounts listed above. The role is also eligible for a competitive benefits package that includes: medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance, 401(k) retirement plan, flexible spending & health savings account, paid holidays, paid time off, and other company benefits.

Draper UT pay range

$144,500-$173,200 USD
