Primary Function:
This is a hands‑on position working with the IT Technical and Information Security Services team to deliver stable, reliable, flexible, and secure IT infrastructure services. The role assists with developing, planning, managing, and implementing projects in server operations, networking, cybersecurity, and compliance. It also involves staying informed about emerging technologies to support strategic initiatives for new or enhanced services for the College, Abbey, Seminary, and Parish.
Required Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Security, Instructional Technology, Communications, or related area of study, or equivalent experience. Minimum three years of experience in support and administration in the areas of Microsoft server administration, Active Directory, file and print services, DNS/DHCP, group policy, Exchange/Office365 email administration, PC/server virtualization (VMware Horizon/ESXi/Omnissa), and data center facility management, all while having an awareness of cybersecurity operational practices. Experience with Microsoft Azure, Entra ID, Intune, SCCM, network infrastructure technologies (core routing/switching), cellular/wireless technologies, and PowerShell are a plus.
Essential Duties:
Perform system administration duties including the installation and patching of the physical and virtual server environment.
Assist with ensuring the working functionality of the server farm and network infrastructure by performing setup, configuration, service support, and routine preventative maintenance of server and network equipment and by being on‑call for off‑hours support.
Develop an understanding of our network infrastructure as managed by our network Managed Service Provider (MSP), including key components such as firewalls, routers, switches, cabling, wireless systems, telecommunications, all related devices, campus VLANs and IP architecture.
Assist with maintaining cybersecurity and compliance procedures in accordance with industry standards on data management, privacy, security, cloud computing, and regulatory requirements.
Assist team members with all security, identity, and access management tasks, along with threat and information protection initiatives.
Assist with troubleshooting cybersecurity incidents and remediation activities so that systems recover quickly after being compromised by viruses, malware, or spyware.
Supervise student workers to make sure their work is performed in a coordinated and efficient manner.
Perform interdepartmental and third‑party (vendors) relationship management to maintain positive working relationships and open communication channels.
Responsible for ensuring the Confidentiality, Integrity, and Availability of “personal information” by protecting against any potential threats or hazards to the security or integrity of such information including unauthorized access to, or use of, such information in a manner that creates a substantial security risk of misuse, theft, or fraud.
Other Duties:
Prepare and analyze statistics on network resources utilization, availability, efficiency, and effectiveness as needed.
Effectively communicate relevant information and notices to the user community about network‑based systems and server status.
Collaborate with planning for upgrading current and proposed network/server equipment.
Assist Application Services with the day‑to‑day operational support of the Enterprise Administrative system in areas that relate to server, network, and account administration.
Assist with the development of policies and procedures for use of the network resources.
Serve as a responsible and professional staff member by participating in IT staff meetings and other functions ensuring documentation, policies, and procedures are followed in‑line with current standards and are properly maintained according to established procedures and forms.
Special Challenges And Environment:
Staying current with a wide variety of technologies, principles, and concepts that fall within the areas of server administration, cybersecurity, and compliance.
Strong customer service orientation, organizational skills, and keen attention to detail.
Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high‑pressure environment.
Ability to install equipment and utilize hand and power tools as required.
Highly initiative‑taking, self‑directed, and able to work independently and as a team member.
Ability to deal with sensitive information with confidentiality and tact.
Always demonstrate professional and ethical conduct.
Access to transportation.
Work outside regular working hours as needed and in certain cases without advance notice.
Occasional lifting and transporting of equipment/paper products, bending, stooping, crawling, and reaching.
