Job Summary
A unique opportunity to join and grow within a leading technology provider, serving the financial services sector. You will act as an escalation point for the service desk for all things network related. As a Network Support Engineer you will bring your experience with Cisco, Juniper networking, and next generation firewall technologies to assist in providing superior customer experience and technology. This position requires a high level of professionalism while performing daily network support tasks as required. While Network Support Engineers primarily work on the “manage and maintain” aspect of client support, they also have the ability to promote infrastructure improvements and assist with client projects and assessments as needs arise.
Responsibilities
Be able to troubleshoot End user connectivity from/to office and Data Centers, remote connections (Meraki, VPN, Citrix)
Support Network core infrastructure between multiple data centers and geographical regions based on routing protocols (OSPF, BGP) and various connectivity methods such as Shared Point to Points, Direct x-connects, GRE VPNs
Support and troubleshoot Internet connectivity for clients with their own DIAs and Data Center Internet connections
Create Layer 1, 2, and 3 network diagrams as necessary for all client environments
Perform Root Cause Analysis on repetitive or major network-related issues to implement permanent resolutions
Understand Palo Alto NG firewall rules and policy and be able to create and troubleshoot unique client firewall requirements
Be able to work independently to configure, set up and lead installation projects for existing clients
Be able to support any specific client requirements for Voice/Video/Security from 3rd party Vendors
Possess knowledge to support IPSec VPNs with variety of hardware, policy‑based routing and variety of Cloud‑based computing and multi‑site, multi‑platform connectivity
Work through a daily queue in ticketing system maintaining proactive communication with clients and adhering to ticket SLAs
Update ticketing system time entries and work notes in real‑time
Be able to work directly with high‑profile clients to understand the needs and potential issues they are experiencing with infrastructure
Respond to escalation requests from lower‑tier teams, taking ownership of assigned issues
Skills
Cisco networking and firewall deployment and support experience gained within a large enterprise or service provider environment
Working knowledge and support experience with Juniper firewalls and switches
Excellent LAN/WAN fault diagnostic and troubleshooting skills, including in‑depth knowledge of Spanning Tree, TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, BGP, OSPF, VPN, IPSEC, MPLS, QoS, NAT and ACLs
A thorough understanding of the OSI network model, Ethernet, and TCP/IP networking concepts
Solid understanding of virtualization and network integration with VMware infrastructure
Experience with network monitoring platforms
Knowledge and working experience with next‑generation firewalls including Meraki Security Appliances, Juniper, Cisco, Palo Alto
Qualifications
3+ years of networking experience
Bachelor’s degree (plus)
Industry certifications (plus)
Flexibility for after‑hours and weekend work
Ability to work on call rotation
