Position Overview: Client is seeking an experienced Database Administrator (DBA) to manage, maintain, and optimize its database systems. The DBA will play a critical role in supporting business operations and data-driven initiatives by ensuring the performance, integrity, and security of databases. This position is part of a larger Data Modernization Initiative (DMI) aimed at transforming siloed public health data systems into connected and sustainable infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities:

Install, configure, and upgrade database software (e.g., SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL).

Monitor and optimize database performance through indexing, schema design, and query optimization.

Develop and maintain backup and recovery strategies; perform regular recovery tests.

Enforce database security including user access, encryption, and auditing controls.

Diagnose and resolve complex database issues related to performance, connectivity, and data integrity.

Conduct regular maintenance, patching, space management, and monitoring.

Implement high-availability solutions including replication and clustering.

Perform capacity planning and monitor database growth and resource needs.

Document database architecture, procedures, and troubleshooting guides.

Collaborate with developers, infrastructure teams, and other stakeholders.

Experience:

Minimum of 8 years as a Database Administrator managing enterprise-grade databases in production environments.

Technical Skills:

Proficient in DBMS technologies like SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL.

Strong SQL and scripting skills (e.g., PowerShell, Python, Bash).

Knowledge of backup/recovery tools and high-availability solutions.

Familiarity with operating systems like Windows Server and Linux.

Experience with database performance monitoring and tuning tools.

Understanding of database security best practices.

Excellent attention to detail and documentation.
