Job Title GIS Technician – GIS Quality Mapping, T&D Operations Department

Job Summary Support T&D Operations in all aspects of mapping, as‑built reporting, and GIS data integrity. Maintain up‑to‑date maps and databases, perform field checks, and generate map exhibits and GIS reports to ensure quality and data accuracy.

Key Responsibilities

Process GIS quality assurance & control error logs.

Perform data cleanup in GIS and the work‑management system.

Update GIS data objects and add new objects and attributes.

Complete simple as‑built tasks such as services and replacements/change‑outs.

Create, maintain, and publish map exhibits, GIS reports, and data extract files, tracking progress on large‑scale projects.

Perform field checks to verify as‑built and/or GIS and asset information.

Assist with as‑built archiving processes.

Perform geo‑rectification tasks.

Process City Boring Research requests.

Process simple land‑base requests such as lot splits, project boundaries, and annexation boundaries.

Maintain meticulous attention to detail.

Communicate effectively with Design, Construction, Systems Office, Engineering and other team members to coordinate activities and ensure data integrity and customer satisfaction.

Perform work safely and in accordance with company practices and procedures.

Work overtime as necessary.

Work in the field on all‑day basis as required.

Work on any TEP work site as required.

May provide services to affiliates of the Company subject to the UNS Energy Code of Conduct and related policies.

Qualifications

One year of work experience using GIS database/mapping software (ESRI or GE SmallWorld, preferred).

Valid, up‑to‑date driver’s license.

Basic knowledge of cartographic design, map reading, aerial photography, and geo‑referenced/geocoded data.

Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

Basic math and electric theory skills.

Familiarity with reading maps, including electrical facilities, aerial, and topological maps.

Familiarity with GIS and database relationships (GE SmallWorld or ESRI ArcGIS preferred).

Knowledge of GPS units and field data collection.

Understanding of cartography concepts such as projections and coordinate systems.

Strong attention to detail and accuracy with data editing.

Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Ability to work in the field on an all‑day basis.

Ability to work overtime as necessary.

Physically able to sit and walk for extended periods of time.

Preference for knowledge of electric utility distribution system.

Resume enumerating qualifications and skills is required.

Assessment Process

Written exam covering mathematics, map reading, and GIS terminology.

Behavioral interview focusing on core competencies such as cost awareness, flexibility, learning, and risk‑taking.

Candidate must pass the written exam to progress to the interview.

Compensation & Benefits Pay Rate: $33.39 per hour
