West Hartford Public Schools seeks an Assistant Boys Swim Coach at Hall High School for the 2025‑26 winter season.
Qualifications
Valid Connecticut coaching certification.
Updated first aid/CPR training approved by the Connecticut State Department of Education.
Completion of Module 15 – Concussion Management.
Ability to organize and supervise a total sports program.
Substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of track.
Reports to: The athletic director, who provides a final evaluation to the principal.
Primary Functions: To instruct athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy and physical training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success while at the same time helping the athlete to achieve an increased level of self‑esteem, an appreciation for the values of sportsmanship and discipline.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
Full responsibility for the overall supervision of his/her program including the junior varsity and freshman teams.
In charge of assignments and duties of assistant coaches working in his/her sport.
Responsible for the general upkeep, protection, and inventory of the equipment and uniforms used in their sport including the junior varsity and freshman teams.
Ensure that assistant coaches and himself/herself know the existing state and league regulations and at all times abide by them.
Assist the administrative assistant in providing transportation and requirements for tournament and special sport events.
Attend all league meetings regarding scheduling and rule updates specific to their sport.
Responsible for developing schedules for all levels of play.
Communicate all schedule changes to the athletic director or administrative assistant.
Provide proper safeguards for maintenance and protection of assigned equipment storage areas.
Assist in the necessary preparation to hold scheduled sport events or practices and adhere to scheduled facility times.
Makes recommendations for awards, and clarifies the award policy to athletes.
Complete the duties listed on the “coaches checklist.”
Participate in the budgeting process with the athletic director by establishing requirements for the next season, explain equipment guidelines, and operate within the established budget.
Have thorough knowledge of policies and procedures in the student‑athlete handbook and CIAC handbook; explain and reinforce rules of training and code of conduct and CIAC eligibility rules to all team members.
Establish the fundamental philosophy, skills, and techniques to be taught by the staff.
Follow and understand the basic NCAA recruiting rules for their specific sport.
Monitor equipment rooms and coaches’ office, authorize athletes only in appropriate areas, never leave athletes unsupervised during scheduled practices.
Examine locker rooms, equipment rooms and playing safe areas before and after team use, checking for general cleanliness and safety.
Secure all doors, lights, windows, gates, locks, and alarm when leaving the building or outside facility when custodians are not on duty.
Evaluate assistant coaches and program, submit necessary post‑season reports to the athletic director at the conclusion of the season.
Be responsible for the actions and conduct of the team whenever they are under his/her jurisdiction.
Take responsibility for the general health and welfare of student‑athletes in his/her sport.
Communicate instructions and commands using clear, simple, and positive language.
Pay appropriate attention to athletes who are injured or ill or otherwise incapacitated; follow the protocol set by the athletic department regarding injured athletes.
Organize pre‑season meetings for players and coaches.
In charge of evaluating performance of athletes and providing suitable feedback; balance criticism with positive and motivating comments.
Maintain good public relations with media, parents, officials, opponents, and fans.
Instill in each player respect for equipment and school property, its care and use.
Direct student managers, assistants, and statisticians.
Maintain current Connecticut coaching certification with the State of Connecticut Department of Education.
