EMERGENCY MEDICINE PHYSICIAN (.8FTE)
Location: Duluth, MN – Essentia Health, St. Mary’s Medical Center.
Practice Overview Essentia Health’s regional Emergency Medicine team serves a mix of urban and rural communities using a hub‑and‑spoke model. Physicians will split time between the 40‑bed, brand‑new St. Mary’s ED and a subset of six regional EDs. Shift structure includes 8/9‑hour shifts with double or triple coverage and APP support 7 days a week.
Regional Sites & Patient Volume
Duluth ED: 42,000 patients/year, state‑of‑the‑art 40‑bed facility
Regional EDs (Aurora, Virginia, Moose Lake, Sandstone, Deer River, Superior WI): 3,500–12,000 patients/year, all level IV trauma
Primary admitting hospital: St. Mary’s Medical Center (330 beds, Level I Trauma)
Key Features
Full spectrum of emergency care, including pediatrics
Collaborative specialists – PICU/NICU, neuro‑interventional, STEMI teams, etc.
Teaching opportunities with family medicine residents and medical students
Supportive, collaborative culture with high nurse retention
Behavioral health resources: psychiatry consults, social work, case management, safe rooms, techs, and nurses
Requirements
Board Certified or Board Eligible in Emergency Medicine
Excellent team player, works well with ED staff, consultants, and patients
Strong commitment to serving both Duluth and regional communities
Compensation $246.51 per hour; eligible for bonuses and quality‑based incentives.
