About the Team The Associates Productivity & Experience (APEX) organization builds and supports associate‑facing applications and experiences. We seek to remove friction points as an associate navigates their workday and build consumer‑grade experiences.

APEX builds world‑class applications and experiences for Walmart associates. From building one of the world’s largest intranets to Walmart associate’s portal which performs 400+ million searches yearly, 2.3 million associates rely on our solutions to perform their daily job.

About the Role We are looking for an experienced full‑stack engineer with strong technical architecture acumen. You will be part of the Engineering Excellence team who drives the software & systems architecture & engineering best practices across the APEX organization. As a member of the APEX Engineering Excellence team, you will lead the efforts to build & maintain software systems used across different teams. You will help APEX teams in troubleshooting and solving complex problems based on your experience, and you will build relationships and guide junior engineers.

Leads and participates in medium‑to‑large‑scale data projects by reviewing project requirements.

Translate requirements into technical solutions; gathering requested information (for example, design documents, product requirements, wireframes).

Write and develop code; communicate status and issues to team members and stakeholders.

Collaborate with project team and cross‑functional teams; troubleshoot open issues and bug‑fixes.

Ensure on‑time delivery and hand‑offs; interact with project manager to provide input on project plan and provide leadership to the project team.

What You’ll Bring

Bachelor’s degree in computer science or computer information systems with 5+ years of experience in software engineering or related fields.

5+ years of programming experience in Java/J2EE and related technologies.

Front‑end development proficiency using React, JavaScript, CSS, and React Native.

Strong experience in building RESTful APIs and event/message‑driven applications leveraging Kafka or similar messaging queues.

Skilled in SQL and NoSQL databases, including schema design and database indexing.

Solid understanding of system components such as authentication/authorization, API gateways, load balancers, high availability, and microservices architecture.

Hands‑on DevOps experience with public cloud platforms (e.g., Azure) and CI/CD pipelines using tools like Jenkins.

Expertise in cloud technologies including Azure, GCP, Docker, and Kubernetes.

Proven ability to design and implement applications and features with strong architectural acumen.

Deep knowledge of object‑oriented programming, design patterns, and data structures.

Experience leveraging Large Language Models (LLMs) through prompt engineering for code generation.

Ability to manage multiple assignments with flexibility and efficiency.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Strong capability to influence product leadership and mentor engineers in technical areas.

Additional Compensation Annual salary range: Sunnyvale, California – $117,000.00 to $234,000.00. Bentonville, Arkansas – $90,000.00 to $180,000.00. Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Stock options may also be available.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 3 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.

5 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Software Engineering, or related area and 1 year’s experience in software engineering or related area.

Experience creating inclusive digital experiences, implementing Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards, assistive technologies, and integrating digital accessibility seamlessly.

Knowledge of accessibility best practices and ability to support Walmart’s accessibility standards and guidelines for an inclusive culture.
