Job Description This role is field‑based and candidates should live within a reasonable distance from the primary city. Talent will be hired at a level commensurate with experience. This geography covers San Diego, Imperial Beach, El Centro, Calexico, Yuma, and the surrounding areas.
Execute brand strategy and tactics in field, manage sales performance, effectively manage assigned territory and targeted accounts, build strong customer relationships, and deliver customer‑needs‑solving capability to maximize short‑ and long‑term sales performance. Place the patient at the center of all efforts and operate within AbbVie’s business code of conduct, policies, and all applicable laws and regulations.
Responsibilities
Deliver sales performance, brand KPIs, financial targets, marketing objectives, etc., to meet or exceed those objectives.
Create a pre‑call plan using SMART objectives and execute post‑call evaluation to continuously improve sales performance. Handle objections, misunderstandings, and concerns, consistently gaining logical and reasonable calls to action to close every sales call.
Proactively serve customer needs, expectations, and challenges, building trusted customer relationships and achieving win‑win agreements between AbbVie and customers.
Develop and execute a call plan that achieves set call metrics, optimizes coverage and frequency to key customers to maximize access and sales opportunities.
Continuously build understanding of customer needs and expectations, territory market landscape, competitors, market segments/dynamics, accounts, disease, product, clinical, and sales expertise, and share this market intelligence with the in‑field team, brand team, and sales manager to achieve alignment, anticipate environmental changes, and optimize brand strategy and execution.
Differentiate AbbVie’s value proposition with health providers assigned, and identify, develop, and maintain disease‑state experts and speakers/advocates to maximize brand performance.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in health, sciences, pharmacy, or business‑related field preferred or relevant and equivalent industry experience required; at least five (5) years of industry experience with three (3) or more years in the pharmaceutical/health/science industry preferred; high school diploma or GED required.
Demonstrates in-depth scientific, therapeutic, product, and competitive knowledge and is recognized as an expert resource by all relevant stakeholders. Strong business acumen, proficient use of business tools, strategic and critical thinking capabilities, and ability to operate effectively in a matrix environment.
Proven track record of success in selling and solid presentation skills. Proactively identifies customer style/behavior and adapts quickly to all aspects of the selling approach, providing impact with ideas for the larger organization and anticipating and responding to changes.
Influences others and is viewed as a credible and respected role model and resource among peers. Builds collaborative partnerships with district colleagues and matrix teams, leading by example and consistently displaying positive behaviors and coaching peers.
Documented success in leadership and support roles with increasing responsibility at the district, region, and/or organizational levels. Leverages findings to develop sales strategies.
Preferred: Proven track record of success in sales performance within relevant therapeutic areas. Commercial pharmaceutical industry experience such as physician/account‑based selling, training, managed health care, or marketing preferred. English language proficiency verbally and in writing for all non‑English speaking countries.
Must satisfy all applicable health care industry representative (HCIR) credentialing requirements to gain and maintain entry into facilities and organizations within the assigned territory. This includes background checks, drug screens, proof of immunization, fingerprinting, and specific licenses required by individual state or cities.
Key Stakeholders External: Specialty physicians in the therapeutic brand area, pharmacists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals depending on the brand plan.
Internal: In‑field team members, sales management (i.e., DSM), marketing management, training, customer excellence, and brand plan stakeholders.

The compensation range described is the possible base pay compensation that AbbVie believes in good faith it will pay for this role at the time of posting based on the job grade. Individual compensation paid within this range may vary based on multiple factors, including geographic location, and may be modified in the future.
