Position Summary: The 2nd Person Meat assists the Meat Manager in overseeing daily operations of the meat department. This includes ensuring product quality, proper merchandising, customer service, and compliance with health and safety standards. This position plays a key leadership role and may act as the department head in the absence of the Meat Manager.
Key Responsibilities
Step in and act as Department Manager in manager's absence. Performs all managerial duties including decision making on all days the manager is absent. At minimum, will be expected to act as Department Manager on a weekly basis.
Assist with ordering, inventory control, and merchandising.
Maintain high standards of product quality, food safety, and sanitation.
Provide excellent customer service, answering questions and making recommendations.
Train and mentor new meat cutters and clerks.
Operate cutting equipment safely and skillfully, ensuring efficient product preparation.
Ensure compliance with company policies, labor regulations, and safety protocols.
Hiring pay range: $30.36 - $30.36
Required Qualifications
Must be at least 18 years of age.
No disciplinary suspension within the last 6 months (for internal candidates).
Must be at a Journeyman Meat Cutter level or have a minimum of 2 years of verifiable meat cutting experience (equivalent to 4,160 hours).
Proven ability to operate meat cutting equipment safely and efficiently.
Strong understanding of meat products, cuts, and quality standards.
Effective communication and leadership skills.
Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays.
Preferred Qualifications
Prior lead experience or Butcher experience in a meat department.
Knowledge of inventory systems and ordering procedures.
Bilingual is a plus.
Physical Requirements
Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 40 lbs.
Comfortable working in refrigerated environments for extended periods.
