Automotive Crash CAE Engineer
Global Connect Technologies, Novi, Michigan, United States, 48377
Job Title:
CAE Crash Engineer Location:
Detroit, MI Job-Type:
Full-Time About the Role: We are seeking a CAE Crash Engineer to join our Vehicle Engineering team. In this role, you will play a key part in the design, analysis, and optimization of vehicle crash structures to ensure superior safety performance and compliance with global safety standards. You will drive crashworthiness simulations, structural optimization, and virtual validation from concept through launch. Key Responsibilities: Design, define, and optimize structural sections and load paths to withstand front, side, rear, and roof crash scenarios. Perform detailed crashworthiness simulations using LS-DYNA to evaluate structural integrity, energy absorption, and vehicle behavior under impact conditions. Utilize characterized material data and advanced modeling techniques to capture realistic crash behavior and failure mechanisms. Develop load path concepts for both high-speed and low-speed crash modes, balancing strength, stiffness, and energy management. Ensure compliance with FMVSS, ECE, and NCAP safety standards. Support full program lifecycle — from concept development to production launch — focusing on crash safety optimization. Correlate simulation results with physical test data and provide clear sign-off documentation. Collaborate cross-functionally with design, materials, and safety engineering teams. Required Skills & Qualifications: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related field. Proven experience in crash structures CAE within automotive programs. Strong proficiency in LS-DYNA and ANSA (pre/post-processing). Solid understanding of high‑strength steel, aluminum, and composite material behavior under impact loading. In‑depth knowledge of FMVSS, ECE, and NCAP safety regulations. Strong analytical, documentation, and problem‑solving skills. Ability to work collaboratively in a fast‑paced, cross‑functional environment.
