Assistant District Attorney – Entry Level and Experienced The Harris County District Attorney’s Office is hiring purpose‑driven practitioners ready to serve the citizens of Harris County.

We offer opportunities for all experience levels—from law students preparing for the Texas Bar Exam to seasoned prosecutors seeking a new challenge. Newly licensed attorneys typically work in the Misdemeanor Division, while experienced attorneys may serve in felony divisions, including special areas such as Crimes against Children, Human Trafficking, Mental Health and Diversions, Domestic Violence, and Homicide Bureaus.

Adaptability and readiness to serve Harris County’s diverse population are essential.

YOUR DUTIES

Work as a team player in a collaborative environment

Interact and consult with law enforcement at various stages from a suspect’s arrest through disposition of the case

Interview and assist victims and witnesses throughout the case

Communicate and negotiate with the defense bar

Evaluate cases to determine the proper outcome—plea agreement, diversion, dismissal, or trial—to achieve justice

Prepare cases for contested matters, including jury trials

Present evidence and advocate to a jury or trier of fact

Grow as an attorney and advocate while mentoring junior prosecutors

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS The salary for a misdemeanor level prosecutor starts at $93,100, and salaries for felony level prosecutors range from $93,100 to $149,635 based on experience level and assignment. Supplemental pay opportunities are available to all attorneys.
