This role is for a Critical Facilities Operating Engineer supporting a Data Center environment for BNSF Railway, located on-site in Topeka, KS. Role : Critical Facilities Operating Engineer. The Operating Engineer will focus on operating, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing facility equipment on all systems. The role requires technical expertise in one craft area (Electrical, HVAC, Piping/Plumbing, Central Utility Plant Operations) and the ability to be multi-skilled to complete daily/weekly work assignments, with a goal of 100% uptime for the Data Center and occupancy for the client\'s high-rise facility. Responsibilities
Maintenance Perform maintenance and monitor repairs to Mechanical, Plumbing, Structural, Furniture, Fire, Life Safety, and Control systems to keep facility and building systems up to applicable standards. Maintain responsibility for facility services, preventative maintenance, purchasing and inventory control, contracted maintenance, general maintenance, and technical proficiency. Maintain HVAC systems and related equipment by cleaning, inspecting, calibrating, and changing parts to keep performance at optimum levels. Other duties and tasks as assigned. Safety Record readings and adjust as necessary to ensure proper operation of equipment. Comply with safety policies for hazardous materials storage, usage and disposal; maintain a clean and safe workplace. Perform periodic checks of tool and instrument inventory. Monitor the quality and pricing of maintenance work performed by outside contractors. Follow all safety procedures and maintain good housekeeping. Recognize hazards and propose elimination methods. Maintain compliance with applicable ordinances, codes, and laws. Complete required safety trainings and participate in the Good Catch/Near Miss program. Administrative Generate monthly reports for the Chief Engineer and develop methods of procedure for critical equipment. Complete year-end employee review processes and escalate problems to the Chief Engineer in a timely manner. Attend work and safety meetings as required. Perform other duties as assigned. Physical and Work Conditions Ability to lift up to 80 lbs and work at heights; frequent climbing, bending, lifting, kneeling, stooping, and overhead work. Work in adverse conditions (extreme cold or extreme heat). Climb ladders with specified weight limits and carry tool bags; be available for call-in work and other duties as required. Experience and Technical Skills Required: High School diploma or GED with two years of trades schooling in electrical design, refrigeration, and HVAC. Experience in Data Centers / Raised Floor environments. Working knowledge of Word and Excel. Licenses as required by the applicable authority. Preferred: Expertise in one craft area: Electrical, HVAC, Piping/Plumbing, Central Utility Plant Operations, or Water-/Air-Cooled Chiller Operations. Familiarity with building automation systems, power management systems, and fire/life safety. Work Schedule
Friday through Tuesday, 3:30 pm to 11:30 pm, with overtime and other assigned shifts as needed. We operate a 24/7/365 facility with 3 shifts of operation. Compensation
Estimated total compensation for this position: Salary range $60,000 to $78,000 USD per year plus shift differential. The total compensation range is an estimate and not guaranteed.
