Occupational Therapist – Citywide CCT 2548 The San Francisco Department of Public Health (SFDPH) is recruiting an Occupational Therapist for permanent positions across its network, including inpatient and outpatient facilities at Laguna Honda Hospital, Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital, Health at Home, and community outpatient clinics such as the California Children Services Medical Therapy Program.

Role Description Under general supervision, the Occupational Therapist assesses, plans, and implements appropriate rehabilitation and habilitative treatment interventions for clients in acute‑care hospitals, long‑term care facilities, outpatient centers, home health, and public school settings. The role involves providing client‑centered care, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams, and managing treatment documentation and discharge planning.

Responsibilities

Evaluate client needs and set treatment goals.

Develop and implement individualized occupational therapy treatment plans.

Document treatment sessions in accordance with facility and regulatory guidelines.

Reassess client progress and modify treatment strategies as needed.

Plan and coordinate client discharge and community reintegration.

Communicate regularly with the rehabilitation team, clients, families, and community partners regarding treatment progress and services.

Provide supervision and mentorship to staff, students, interns, or volunteers when assigned.

Qualifications & Requirements

Active Occupational Therapy License issued by the California Board of Occupational Therapy (CBOT).

At least 2 years of clinical experience (minimum for certain setting) or a recent 3‑month pediatric clinical internship for positions in the California Children’s Services Medical Therapy Program.

Valid Basic Life Support for Professional Rescuer (BLS) certificate issued by the American Heart Association; if not already held, must be obtained within 2 weeks of hire.

Demonstrated experience with clients in acute‑care, rehabilitation, mental health, or pediatric settings, and proficiency in evidence‑based practice and sensory modulation approaches.

Ability to work independently in diverse, underserved populations and within a collaborative team environment.

Proficiency in documentation and electronic health record systems.

Exam Requirement Applicants must complete the required examination linked to the job posting at the time of application. The examination assesses relevant experience and knowledge.
