Base pay range $65,092.00/yr – $83,317.00/yr

Purpose The Department Supervisor 3 – Safety reports to the Director of the Division of Roads Maintenance and is responsible for inspecting all DPS entities to ensure compliance with Wayne County and DPS safety policies and protocols. This includes accident prevention, MIOSHA adherence, and adherence to all other DPS safety and operational guidelines. The supervisor conducts random inspections, reports findings, maintains documentation, trains employees, and performs other assigned duties.

Required Tasks

Respond to safety emergencies.

Conduct safety surveys and yard inspections at various DPS/Roads work site locations, evaluating work site safety concerns.

Ensure safety signs are posted in compliance with safety standards.

Assist in CPR/AED, First Aid, mobile crane, aerial lift, and forklift training in coordination with the Training Department Manager.

Coordinate required safety-related employee training and address concerns.

Assist the Risk Management Safety Officer when needed and report any accidents or safety-related issues.

Maintain documentation and record keeping; update required safety policies and records.

Develop or maintain hygiene programs such as fire protection.

Attend Roads Maintenance Division Safety Committee meetings as a member.

Attend bi‑weekly and other meetings.

Assist with FOIA requests.

Assist in acquiring equipment and materials needed for training and safety to maintain compliance with standards, protocols, and guidelines.

Identify MIOSHA concerns and requirements and ensure they are met.

Inspect for COVID protocols being followed and assist with training on COVID and other health and safety protocols.

Prepare appropriate reports and perform other related duties and tasks as assigned.

Qualifications Educational/Experience Requirements

Associate’s degree or equivalent credit hours (or higher) in a health and safety-oriented discipline, including MIOSHA and OSHA certifications.

At least five (5) years of experience in a Roads Maintenance environment.

Valid state of Michigan driver’s license with CDL, A and N endorsements, and an acceptable driving record.

Must have certifications and experience in Health and Safety, HIPAA, Mobile Crane Training, Aerial Lift & Fork Lift Training, CPR, OSHA Outreach Training, Snow & Ice experience, mold inspection, fire safety, and knowledge of Hazard Communication Plan for MIOSHA investigations.

Salary: $65,092 – $83,317 per year
